Chapter Thirty One
Elaina awoke to the blaring white light of the sun.  After spending so much time underground her eyes had forgotten how bright it was.  The air smelled thick of smoke, but all the fire from the night before had finally ended.  Beside her Christopher still slept soundly looking almost peaceful.  In the morning light she could see gashes along his face, which had been the source of all the blood on him.  Nasty scabs mixed with ash and dirt covered them. Sighing Elaina got up deciding she would go find a first aid kit to try and clean them to see just how bad the damage was.  Her muscles screamed at her from her night on the ground.  Stretching she tried to loosen them a bit with no luck. Around her people still slept soundly, if it wasn’t for the bandages and sores on them she could almost believe that they had just had a massive campout. Quickening her pace Elaina made her way

Chapter Thirty Two
Something cold and wet wiped itself along Elaina’s cheek as she began to come to.  Pain seared its way through her whole body.  Groaning Elaina lifted an arm and tried to ward off whatever was touching her.She felt her hand make contact with something almost as soft as velvet.  Eyes flying open she found herself face to face with the creature that had come to her side before she passed out.  As she moved her hand along its side a happy chortle escaped its lips.  The creature stuck out its long snake like tongue and ran it along Elaina’s cheek.“Stop that.” Elaina sighed trying to shoo the creature away from her.It scuttled back just a little bit its nose twitching as it watched her.  She watched it carefully not really sure what to think.  Cocking its head to the side the creature took a few tentative steps towards her, only to scuttle back again as the pounding of footsteps mad

Chapter Thirty Four
Elaina braced herself as Rathial approached her.  She didn't know what exactly it was he wanted with her, but she knew that it couldn't be good."Oh don't look at me like that." Rathial purred as he stopped a mere few inches from Elaina.  "I told you before that I have no intention of hurting you.""Then what exactly are you planning?" Elaina demanded trying to step back only to find that her feet and legs wouldn't work.  "What did you do to me?"Rathial let out a laugh, "I simply made it where you couldn't try to escape.  As for what I want didn't I mention it before?  I want you to join me Elaina.""Never." Elaina hissed.  The man had to be mad to think that she would ever join his dark army.  "I'd rather die."Seeming unphased Rathial looked to the closest frozen warrior.  With a snap of his fingers the man disentagrated right before Elaina's eyes."WHAT DID YOU JUST DO?" Elaina demanded as she watc

Chapter Thirty Five
Elaina wasn't sure how much time passed as she remained locked away in her dingy cell.  With no windows she couldn't see the passing of the time.  It could have been minutes, hours, even days and she wouldn't be aware. The only signs of life she was allowed to see during her stay were the dark warriors that brought her her three meals a day.All alone and having nothing else to do Elaina found herself trying to figure out if she could communicate with her friends or even Elder Zacariah like she had done with Rathial previously.  If she wished to ever escape then she had to figure out a way to get to freedom and she wasn't completely sure that she would be able to do it on her own.Closing her eyes she attempted to focus on finding her calm space.  Faint light began forming in her mind as she allowed herself to go deeper and deeper before suddenly being ripped from her meditative state by a clawed hand."What do you think you're doing l

The sound of snuffling woke Elaina from her pain filled sleep.  Groaning she tried to shoo away whatever it was that was messing with her only to have her hand to connect with a familiar velvetty fur.Eyes flying open she found a Ratize was scuttling around beside her.  It chortled happily as she woke before beginning to lick her."How are you here?" She murmured in confusion looking around to see if there was any hole in the wall that she may have missed.Coming up short she eyed the creature that was still happily running its tongue along her skin. Were ratize able to teleport?  She couldn't quite remember learning anything about this particular creature.  "Are you magical?" She asked it forcing the ratize to pay attention. With a chortle the Ratize disappeared before reappearing before Elaina.  Feeling a sudden surge of hope Elaina hugged the creature.  "Can you get me out of here?" She asked quickly looking around

Chapter Thirty Seven
"Look over there!" Came a familiar voice through Elaina's warm darkness."No way, it can't be!" Came another as strong arms wrapped around her.Shivering in pain Elaina tried to pry herself free of the embrace.  "It hurts." She growled keeping her eyes shut."Oh my gosh!" Gasped another voice, "Look at her back!""What the hell happened?"Despite Elaina's best attempts at getting out of the arms that held her she did not succeed as they tightened their grip."We need to get her back to camp." Came a deep masculine voice that made her heart race.Squinting through one eye Elaina looked up at Chase, only he didn't quite look like Chase.  His hair was longer and he had grown a goatee."What..." Elaina's voice came out hoarse as a coughing fit overtook her."Just try to relax." Chase urged quickening his pace."What's going on?" Elaina asked after the coughs ended."That's what I want to ask you." Cha

Chapter Thirty Eight
When Elaina was done talking all eyes were on her and they all looked like they would bulge out of their heads at any second."Did I grow a second head or something?" She asked now bristling.  "Why are you looking at me like that?""No." Samantha said quickly.  "Just, how could it be possible that you were only there for a few days, but it has been six months here?""Warped time?" Elaina offered shrugging.  "I'm just trying to wrap my head around the fact I lost half a year in such a short amount of time.""Is that really the real issue here though?" Charisse chimed in.She was right the amount of time that Elaina was gone wasn't the issue right now, the issue was the fact that the war was going on and she didn't know how it had been going. If half their warriors were already taken out what did that mean for those who remained?  Did they stand a chance against Rathial's dark army?"Tell me about what all of you hav

"Is that...." Samantha began before covering her mouth with a hand."Behemoth." Elaina said happily.  "I told you that stupid rat was useful."Everyone was staring wide eyed at the herd of Behemoth beasts heading towards them."What do we do now?" Charisse asked coming up and grabbing Elaina's arm."We need to try to make nice with them." Elaina responded.  "How else will we be able to use them?""How do we do that?" Oliver asked scratching his forehead."We let them come to us and then go from there." This was the opportunity that they needed to turn things around and they couldn't mess it up.  Taking a deep breath Elaina began moving forward. "Elaina wait." Came Chase's voice from behind her as a large warm hand wrapped around her wrist."What's wrong?" Elaina asked eyeing Chase. She hadn't noticed it earlier but he looked so worn out.  "Are you sure this is a good idea?&nbs

Pulling away Elaina looked to Chase wide eyed."Why did you do that?" She demanded as a bright red flush began to creep up her cheeks.  "Is this truly the time?""You didn't seem so opposed." Chase smirked. He was right she hadn't been opposed, but that didn't mean that she didn't understand why he had done that out of the blue.  Especially when they didn't have the time to be focusing on silly things like romance when there was an impending war."Can you not behave yourself?" Elaina asked narrowing her gaze.Seeming unphased Chase continued to smile, "After six long months, no I can't."Elaina could feel her heart doing tiny flips within her chest at his words.  Again she was reminded of the fact it had been six months in their time that she had been gone.  The idea of that much time passing without her even being aware still blew her mind."This needs to stop Chase." Elaina murmured looking down at her hands.&nbs
