Chapter 101: Gothic Cravings
ELDER DONOVAN.“I crave death.” I never thought those words will ever come out of my mouth but after four nights in Jethro's dungeon, I crave death. The mosquitoes are the least of my problems, they bother me too but not as much as Jethro's guards. I’ve never met men more cruel. Instead of food, as per Jethro's instructions they take turns to torture me three times a day. It’s the only indication of time I have in this dark place. I have no knowledge of what is going on outside now, is Jethro going on with the war as planned or is he doing things his own way? I hate that it even bothers me.What I should be worried about now is my own life and how to keep it.I hear footsteps, my stomach is starting to churn like I’ve had one too many drinks. It twists in dread, my fragile heart is beating fast, looks like it’s noon again. The steps draw closer and closer and the beat of my heart goes even faster. The loud steps start to fade away.He just walked past my door. What’s going on? Not

Chapter 102: Pride Goes Before A Fall
ALPHA JACOB Joining a war that has nothing to do with me might be the most stupid decision I’ve ever made since I became Alpha. I can’t even explain why I want to participate in this war and now that I’m here in front of Nikolai, I know there’s no turning back now. “I don’t understand, what does it have to do with you?” He asks innocently but I would be a fool to think that he completely trusts me. Nobody trusts anybody when it comes to war and to top it all off his woman has recently been kidnapped. “I want to fight this war with you, that is of course if you let me.” I say and he grunts. “Why would you want to do that? You know how deadly this war is going to be and it has nothing to do with you so why?” he asks bit I don’t have an answer for him. If I hadn’t cut off all communications with Isador, I would have said she bewitched me out of spite. “I just thought it would be better to have you as an ally rather than an enemy.” “This is not a war that you have to pick sides, y

Chapter 103: Who's Really Okay?
NIKOLAI “The goal is to get my wife out of there and to leave their town in ruins.” I tell Jacob and he nods, talking to a blind man is not weird at all. There’s no need for eye contact and Jacob is smarter than he lets on. “That's two things. What’s the most important one?” He asks patiently. “My wife.” I answer honestly. “My wife is the most important thing, my wife latter’s to be more than the honor of this pack.” “I get it but don’t you think you’re being too honest with me?, what if I decide to steal your wife?” He jokes but I don’t find it funny. “Then I’m going to show you how people protect things that are important to them.” “Woah, calm down tiger. It was a joke. A harmless joke. I will never steal your wife especially now that you just indirectly threatened my life.” The side of my lips twitches but he doesn’t see it so no one is gonna know except me. “What's the plan?” I thought he’d never ask. HUNTER. Who knew raising werewolves would be so hard? I always though

Chapter 104: Use it As You Deem Fit
NIKOLAI I don’t know what to expect, one pack? two? I have no idea but what I do know is that I’m prepared for whatever I might face. My army and Jacob’s army together are unstoppable. I’m going to get my wife and not even the goddess could stop me. I’m going to put an end to this once and for all and focus on making my pack the best pack in the land. “We leave today and we find a place to lay low till midnight, we start to attack by then.” I tell Jacob and he chinks down his last loaf of bread. “Why do you want to strike by midnight?” he asks ignorantly. “So they won’t see it coming?” “Exactly!” I answer and he chuckles. “What’s so funny?” I ask and he wipes his mouth meticulously before turning his head in my direction. “They’ve been preparing for this war for months and you’ve struck them a couple of times already, do you really think you’ll catch them unaware?” I think about it for a while, he’s got a point but I still think our best moment to strike is when they’re asle

Chapter 105: Don't Let Her Go
HUNTER. It’s funny how I went from wanting to sleep to not being able to close my eyes. I couldn’t bring myself to tell Daphne that Winter was kidnapped, she’d have too much questions and I doubt that she’ll be able to handle it. For now, I’m just trying my best to act normal around her. The weight of the pack that Nikolai has put on my shoulder is something else to worry about. How am I supposed to take care of an entire pack when I can’t even take care of my own family on my own. Should I have turned it down? Will that have been the better option? Daphne, the twins and a plot of land are all I’ve got now and I don’t want to loose them. We’re not ready for the war of politics. “What are you thinking about? I’ve been yelling your name for the past five minutes.” Normal my foot, Daphne is going to get the truth out of me in seconds. “I’m just thinking about the war and all the stress we’re about to go through.” I lie but I think I’m being too obvious. She’s narrowing her eyes at

Chapter 106: How To 'Priest'
PRIEST Priest cracks his back as he wakes up from his living room couch. He didn't make it to the bed this time around. He had had one to many jars of sweet alcohol, something he shouldn't be doing, knowing his reputation around the pack. But a man's got to do what he has got to do, especially with the responsibility of raising a grand son and helping countless wolves on a daily basis. His life is too not basic to avoid alcohol. It's the fastest way to survive, according to a few researchers who made this comment while under the influence. I don't overdo it before I get the spirit angry like that last, and then I'd be left on my own and with my half-baked wits to council Tyson wolves. What a horror. I'm glad they returned it back the last time I met them while performing the art. I hate it when I don't have the help of the spirits. It makes the work ten times worse and harder. I don't even get holidays. The boy runs off to get breakfast from the market. I'm waiting at home on a ro

Chapter 107: The Unending Battle
NIKOLAI. I slash another guard by the throat and he falls down on the floor with a horrified expression. He looks shocked that I killed him, he didn’t see it coming. I stare at his body for a few seconds and if I wasn’t desperate to find my wife, I would be laughing at his face. When Jacob came to me and said he wanted to fight by my side, I pictured him on a horse killing men not staying in a chariot ten miles from the war front and waiting for reports every two hours. I didn’t expect too much so I’m not exactly disappointed, in fact I’m grateful. I didn’t realise how much I needed help until I was offered it. “Look out!” my right hand man yells and I turn back to see an arrow flying towards me. I throw myself out of the way and make sure that I end the life of the person that shot the arrow. “Thanks man.” I say and he gives me a small nod before returning to killing people. “I'm heading in.” I yell and I know he heard me. I need to find Winter as fast as I can. I’m starting t

Chapter 108: Kill Him Already!
JACOB “What sort of magic is this that the men are starting to kill each other? Nikolai didn’t tell me these people had black magic. Where the hell is Nikolai?!” I thunder and he starts to stutter. “You suddenly can’t talk?!” “Jethro took him.” He says and I flinch. This wasn’t how it was supposed to go at all. “Tell all the men to retreat! All the sane ones at least, I don’t need anyone going haywire and killing anyone on the road.” I tell him and I hear his footsteps as he races back to the battle field. “Hurry!” I yell after him. The fact that they’re mindless killing wolves going around is an unsettling fact for me. My blindness is not helping either. I impatiently wait for him to return as I consider taking my chances and leaving before them. If we’re going to save Nikolai, we need more men and a new plan. NIKOLAI I should have killed Donovan myself when I had the chance. How dare that bastard?! As far as I know, only my father knows how those arrows are made. Jus

Chapter 109: A New Beginning
HUNTER. Ever since I told Daphne about Winter and Nikolai, she’s been more paranoid than I was. She asks a lot more questions and she sleeps a lot less. We moved into the palace five days ago just like Nikolai instructed and I’m still trying to figure out how things work around here and I feel as though I’m already failing even before I’ve started. Nikolai showed me where to find all the documents I was going to need and gave me the freedom to do as I please. I know where the lands are, he made provisions of all the resources that I might need and all that is left a for me to start making him money. The pack is going to need a lot of funds soon and the good part of this business is that their meals get taken care of. As they buy, they give back to the pack and as the pack also sells to neighboring packs, they bring in money. Although, I’m not sure if we’re still going to be friends with the neighboring packs after this war that Nikolai has gone to fight and that is not even what

Chapter 110: A Lost War
JACOB “All the men have been taken hostage!” A guard reports and I growl in confusion. “What is that supposed to mean?” “The men were over powered and we’re chained like slaves.” He explains like I don’t know what taken hostage means. “If all the men were taken, how are you here?” I ask suspiciously and I hear him draw his sword. “Because I promised them you.” He answers and tries to chain my hands together but he doesn’t get a chance. I grab his wrist so tight that the sword falls from the other hand. I can’t tell where the sword is but I can tell where it’s not so I drag him out of the sword's reach. Every time he tries to land a punch, he’s several seconds too late because he’s lousy. When he’s done trying, I reach for his neck and twist it until I hear his bones break. I know I should have gone without the guards. I find my way back into the carriage, giddy up the horses, get on the road and hope that I don’t get lost. I have a keen sense of direction but I’m not sure
