"Ryker" Preston gasped as he took in the clearing. I had a couple of pack members decorate it. There were fairy lights hung on trees. Smack in the center was a table for two with tiki lamps around lighting the area. Beside the table was a cart with trays of food and a cooler that held the drinks. Since Preston was under age still, I had them pack sodas instead of alcohol. "How did you do all this in such a short time?" He asked turning to face me and I smiled "I had help from a couple pack members. Do you like it?" I asked while looking at the clearing. Flowers had long gone died due to the winter weather and the trees had gone bare. The air smelt fresh and clean. Snow was coming soon. "No" I blinked shaking my head at his reply making my heart sink only to sigh in relief when he added, "I love it. This is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me. Thank you" "You don't need to thank me, Preston. You deserve the world not just this simple dinner under the stars" I said and he s

I woke up to the sound of my Dad's heartbreaking howl and I felt tears sting my eyes. I climbed out of bed as more howls and whines filled the air and looked out the window to see Papa's wolf dash into the trees. Today, 17 years ago, mama passed away and every year on this day, Papa went to the cemetery to talk to him. I felt tears roll down my face as the pain filled howls broke through the night sky. Today was going to be a long day for everyone. The moon was slowly beginning to go down with the sun rising in the horizon. No need to go back to bed when I'll have to be up again in a couple hours anyway. Walking over to my desk, I picked up the picture frame that rested there. I was 8 months old when it was taken. Mama and Papa were both smiling down at me as my hand wrapped around Mama's pinky. My siblings were crowding around the bed with Julianna being in Papa's lap. "17 years have come and gone in a blink of an eye and I wish I knew you before you went away. I wish you were here

I looked over at Preston who had fallen asleep a few minute ago and clenched my hands on the steering wheel. I was fucking livid. Benson had contacted me through the family link telling me to get my ass to the school because Preston had ran out of their last class crying after what their teacher said. I wanted to strangle the bitch for making my mate cry. Who in their fucking minds tell their students that they should get over the death of their parents even if it's been years? To tell their student that their parent was a faggot? If it weren't for Preston sobbing in my arms when I arrived at the school I would have marched down the hall towards the Chemistry classroom and bashed her head on the wall for saying those to him. Preston never met his other dad who he calls mom because he died when Preston was only a baby. I was lucky enough to have met Jessie, his mom, before he passed away years prior since he was friends with Marc who had been the alpha at the time. He was a good guy t

The drive from Ryker's pack house to mine was like a weight was pressing down on my chest making it hard to breathe. Every step I took closer to the house was like a stab in my chest making it hard to breathe. Tears rolled down my face the closer I got. A hand taking hold of mine made me choke on a sob. Ryker pulled me closer to him and kissed the top of my head as we walked in silence. Eyes of the pack looked on with sorrow and sadness. Papa was and will always be the greatest Beta the pack has ever had and the fact that he was dying was hard for everyone. "We're here for you remember that" Ryker whispered as we stood in front of Papa's room. I felt the knot grow as the seconds ticked by. I closed my eyes and willed the tears back before clearing my throat and knocking on the door. A second later it was opened by a red and puffy eyed Julianna. The second we were face to face she pulled me into an brace that had me sobbing once again. To hell with holding back my tears."Are you goi

"Hey" I looked up to see Preston leaning against the door frame of my office and pushed back from my seat and patted my lap making him walk over and sit down, his head tucked under my chin as my arms wrapped around him "How are you feeling?" I asked and he shrugged his shoulders as he played with the strings of my hoody. It's been over a month since Princeton's passing and I know it's been hard on him. The day after the funeral he moved in with me stating that being at his house hurt because he'd wake up in the mornings expecting to see his father at the island laughing along with his older siblings but when he'd walk in the island would be empty or filled with silence as he and his siblings ate. It'll take time for him to get back to his old self and until then, I'll be here to hold him and whisper words of encouragement."I've been better." He whispered and I closed my eyes as I felt his tears soak my hoody before his shoulders began shaking as he cried. I pulled him closer and kis

"I want to renovate the apartment" Ryker said out of the blue and I blinked before sitting straight in my seat and looked at him with a raised brow "Yeah and what did you have in plan?" I asked and he beamed making me chuckle. He was like a child on Christmas morning. He pulled out a folded piece of paper and handed it to me and I unfolded it and finding a beautiful design "I was thinking of making it a two story apartment. I mean the top floor isn't being used so why not?" He said with a shrug of his shoulders "The top floor can be where the bedrooms are while the bottom floor can be the living room, kitchen/dining room, game room and theater room. Maybe even have a playroom in the future when we hav kids" I said and his head snapped up so fast that I winced when I heard it crack and he rubbed his neck "How many kids are we talking about?" He asked with a cheeky grin making me roll my eyes "We haven't talked about that have we?" I asked an he hummed taking a sip of his water whi

Graduation day was tomorrow away and Preston was a nervous wreck, why? I had no idea but seeing him thinking of anything that didn't have to do with his parents, was better than anything. He spent four days locked in our room crying a week prior about them not being here for him -until a pup had been found and brought to the clinic where he spends his days in- and and all I did was hold him and tell him that they'll be watching him from wherever they are and are proud of him. Now he was worried that he's going to fall flat on his face as he walked up the steps to get his diploma. He was worried that he'll make a fool of himself but I knew he was going to be just fine. He always thinks negatively when it comes to big events like these.I can now only imagine what he'll be like when the day comes when we get married. He'll probably lose sleep. He worried and fretted over everything and anything but that's what I love about him. Over the course of the year of being together, he's gotten

The stands were filled to capacity with family and friends of the graduates and a stupid part of me searched the crowd for my dad, but I knew he wouldn't be there among the parents and it hurt to think that he wasn't present but deep down I knew he was watching along with Mama and the rest of the family who wasn't here anymore. The slight breeze that passed through me was enough proof that they were present and that made the ache in my chest full and a smile to cover my face. I looked up when I felt eyes on me and saw Ryker looking my way>Are you alright beautiful?>Just nervous, but it's to be expected

I looked across the yard to where my mate and son were and smiled. It's been a roller coaster ride but we work through it all. We've been together for two years today and every day has been a blessing. Two years ago, Preston and I made the decision to adopt the pup that had been left behind by his parents even if we weren't quite ready. We learned together what raising a child with special needs really was and learned what we needed to know to help him grow to be independent even if he has Down Syndrome. We named him Ajax Cayden. Ajax meaning warrior and Cayden meaning fighter because Ajax was just that. He was a warrior and fighter. He fought from day one. He's our little warrior because he never gave up. Our families had been adamant about us taking on such a big step before we completed the mating but in the end, they supported our decisions and have helped us as best and as much as they could. Which brings us to now. Preston was making silly faces at Ajax making the toddler burst

"Hey" I looked up from my book to find Ryker standing in the doorway of our room and smiled "Hey, I didn't hear you come in, how was training?" I asked and he shrugged "It could have gone a bit better but considering it's a first time for the new shifted pups it went well" he replied and I nodded putting my book down as he walked over and climbed into bed being careful not to wake Ajax who was sound asleep beside me"How was he?" He questioned after pecking me on the lips, his eyes locked on our son as his fingers ran through his hair gently "He was good. Took him to see Dr. Decker and he said that Ajax had an ear infection so he prescribed some antibiotics and also said to give him some children's Tylenol to help reduce the fever" I said looking down at the sleeping toddler with a smile. Ajax has woken up this morning burning up and we were worried since it could be something serious but after getting assured that it wasn't, I was relieved. Ryker had gone to train right before I t
