Envious and Devious

Anna's POV

I was lost for words here. I didn't know which one to focus on right now. I just received shocking news from Smith that he was a billionaire. When I haven't recovered from this, my stepsister, Emily points a gun at me and Smith.

“Please don't shoot…” I begged. “I have done nothing to deserve death from you. Put the gun down and let us discuss peacefully.”

“Just shut up and raise your filthy hands!” Emily shouted at me. I had to raise my hands but Smith didn't raise his own hands. He kept on looking at Emily and this was strange.

I thought Emily would tell him to but with the way she was looking at him, I needed no one to tell me that she was in love with him. She must have found out his true identity. I saw this as a bad method of confessing your feelings. If I was in Smith's shoes, nothing would lead me to Emily.

“I have handled a lot of guns in my life and basically, I can differentiate!” Smith said calmly. “What you have there is a fake gun made of plastic. I don't know what you tend to achieve with this. Even if it was real, you can't shoot more than a bullet before it all ends. I am very sure you won't be able to release two bullets!”

Smith sounded quite relaxed and I placed my hands down. I peered at the gun and what Smith said made sense. The gun seemed to be made out of plastic. There was only one way to prove it and I decided to try it out. I moved closer to Emily and hit the gun away from her hand. It fell and both of us struggled to pick it up first. I won after I pushed Emily aside.

I was expecting to touch plastic since Smith had said it before.

But it wasn't plastic at all. It was metallic. It was steel and a real gun to buttress this point. I was dazed and while holding the gun, my hands were shaky. In a few seconds, the security guards came inside and held Emily. They were going to arrest her for bringing in a weapon into the restaurant. One of the guards retrieved the gun and said he would hand it over to the police. I knew Emily would be in trouble but I didn't worry about her. Things would fall into place.

After the guards had taken Emily away, I was alone with Smith and I decided to talk to him about the gun earlier.

“You have never dealt with guns in your life, have you? I am disappointed that you could not differentiate between a real gun and a plastic gun! Don't you know that it is dangerous? I could have died from the ailment of believing you!” I told him loudly. I was still frightened.

“But everything fell into place, huh!” Smith said excitedly. “If I never said that, you wouldn't have been able to push the gun away from her hands. Things would have been worse.”

I looked at him and shook my head.

“I don't blame you. I should blame myself for believing you to the extent of guns!” I exclaimed. This was said jokingly and he caught the drift. I smiled happily. It was all over now and I could be comfortable.

“Really?” Smith asked. “Do you know that it would have been worse if the guards met her while she was pointing the guns at us? By now, your step sister might have been shot or something worse would have happened. She would be treated like a fucking terrorist!”

I gasped.

Smith was right in this situation. It was better that he encouraged me but this didn't excuse the fact that he was wrong with his choice.

“It is true but you still have to tell me about the gun. Is it that you don't know a thing about guns or was it done intentionally?” I asked carefully. We were still waiting in the restaurant for one of the security guards to take our statement.

“Look into my eyes and think about it once more. What does it look like?” Smith replied to my question with his own question. I had to think and right after, I knew the answer to this situation.

“I guess you know nothing about guns!” I said shortly.

“Correct!” Smith replied and started to laugh hysterically. I continued to gaze at him as I shook my head. “You should know that I don't have guts up to that extent. If I knew it was a real gun, I would raise up my hands instead of acting like a tough guy. Do you think I have seven lives?”

I laughed hysterically. Smith was a real joker and this made living around him interesting. See how we made a joke out of such a serious issue. It was not a joke for a stepsister of mine to threaten me with a gun. This wasn't a movie, it was real.

“As it should be…” I took a deep breath. I looked around the place and could see that it was going to rain. “It will start raining soon. I think it's about time that we head back home!”

“We can't leave without writing our statement!” Smith reminded me. Now, I had to stay. I had no choice in this circumstance. I took a deep breath.

We didn't talk for a moment and during this period, I thought about how Smith was never bankrupt. He had just revealed this to me but I didn't know his motive. This made me quite scared of him. I didn't like people who were so discreet.

“Things will change from now on,” Smith said to me carefully. “I will never be the man you used to know but definitely, I will try to maintain my previous attitude. I would need you to be with me since we can only do this together!”

I sighed. I

already saw this coming. I was quite perplexed here.
