Chapter 42

While listening to Raymond, Jennifer couldn’t prevent tears from welling up in her eyes. Raymond’s suspicion of her giving him poison baffled her. Why would he harbor such a thought? Didn’t he have any trust in her? She was merely trying to explain that a maid was responsible, yet he seemed to be accusing her.

“I didn’t do anything,” she replied amidst tears.

“Stop pretending and tell me who instructed you to carry what you did.”

She gave a slight shake in response. “I didn’t do anything. I swear I did not. I can not even think of something like that.”

Raymond felt a sharp pain in his head and instinctively reached out to touch it. Jennifer rushed to his side and gently held his arms, expressing concern, “Are you okay?”

Pushing her hands aside, he uttered, “Stay away.” His words deeply saddened her.

Despite not having eaten anything yet and suffering from a high fever, he spoke with the demeanor of a strong man, seemingly unconcerned about his health.
