Chapter Twenty Five

Maximo PoV

I’ve known Axel for a long while, and he has always been efficient in every task he handles. His ambition was unrivaled and would do anything if it meant he’ll get what he wanted. So when he announced he’d lost Lisa, I smelled a rat. And I was right. That rat was Klaus.

“Even animals deserved to be treated better than I was treated…”

I wasn’t paying any attention to Lisa’s rant. It was obvious to the entire table that she was simply trying to evade the question I asked her. Frankly, it was disappointing. For a girl who had been mistreated and abused her entire life, I’d expected that she would develop the art of lying.

She really was a naïve, innocent world sent to fulfill a prophecy she had no idea of. Lisa might be innocent and naïve, but Klaus wasn’t, and he was the one I paid attention to.

“I already lost count of the times I almost died because of your mistreatment,” Lisa’s rant continued.

Her rant might be conjured up to aid her evasion tactics, but her anger was real
