Chapter Twenty Four

Axel PoV

That was the thing about mad, powerful men. They are never predictable. And Maximo was definitely a mad and powerful man. He could have easily sent a messenger that he’d found Lisa, and I wouldn’t have to lose my mind about the coming carnage, which, apparently was never coming. I was pissed. On top of that, I failed, which meant I had a debt to owe. I owed a madman.

Then, he’d tried to instigate Klaus and me to fight him, knowing fully well that we stood no chance of winning. What kind of madman does that? And what did he mean by Klaus’s wolf being energetic? As if his madness was enough, he had me fetching a plate for the same stupid girl he had ordered me to batter. I was thoroughly pissed. My anger stirred and simmered within me, begging to be let off, then I heard the little witch talk.

“You’re here to save me, right?” she sounded happy, which was no surprise since Klaus had always had a soft spot for the girl, “just like you did before?
