Chapter Twenty Six

Axel PoV

Watching Klaus and Lisa tell the same story, yet, it was obvious that one of them was lying was quite unsettling. It was difficult to tell if Klaus was lying, but Lisa’s was obvious. The question was, why is she lying? That could only mean Klaus was also lying.

I understood that part, but what I absolutely did not understand was why Klaus would put the pack in danger. I could swear that he would happily lay down his life for the pack, and probably even murder Lisa himself if it meant the pack survived.

Surely, he couldn’t possibly be so scared of me that he would be too fearful, to tell the truth when the pack was in danger. Unless…

“Shall we discuss your debt then?” Maximo interrupted my thought.

“What debt?” Klaus asked.

“Well, you did fail to deliver Lisa as I asked you to,” Maximo replied, munching sloppily on his meal, “I reward both failures and successes, isn’t that right, Axel?”

“It definitely is,” I replied, gulping down the terrible drink the host called wine.
