Bas POV

I told myself to give her time. She was still grieving, but it only seemed to be getting worse. Rebecca stayed indoors, not stepping a foot out of her room. Days turned into weeks, and the distance between us grew more profound.

I walked into her room and found her exactly as she had been the previous day, and the day before that. She was curled up under a blanket, lying on her bed with her back turned towards me. The room was dim, the curtains drawn tight against the sunlight. The air felt heavy, filled with the quiet sorrow that seemed to engulf her.

"Rebecca," I said softly, but she didn't respond. She didn't even glance at me.

I looked around the room, my heart aching at the sight. Her food, which I had brought in earlier, remained untouched on the nightstand.
