Chapter eleven

BENJAMIN'S POV

Ken's constant rivalry with Jane was suddenly beginning to get at me.

I might not want her for a wife, but I can't also stand her having anything to do with my younger brother.

Dad had asked me about her during breakfast, even though I assured him of her well-being, he still insisted that I bring her down for him during lunch.

It was as I approached her room that I heard the conversation between her and my supposed brother.

“She has every right” I said Without the slightest hesitation.

The shock on their faces was unbecoming and I was almost pushed into laughing at them.

“Brother, I came by to see how my sister-in-law is faring. Heard she's sick.” Ken admitted in between a throaty cough.

If I wasn't present when Ken was born, I would have doubted his paternity. He was nothing like dad and I.

He was shrewd and tends to chicken out at the face of crisis.

I knew he left the house to avoid seeing my face. The dread he showed each time he came around me was always baffling.
