Chapter 1. The Alpha

I was sitting on a large wooden log surrounded by fructiferous trees gazing out over the river's raging waters. There wasn't any sound but the crickets chirping, the breeze gently grazing my skin, and the slight rustling of the leaves around me. The night sky was fascinating, and the crescent moon shone like a gleaming diamond.

Currently, I am depleting my time here as I enjoy the beautiful scenery in the middle of the night, randomly brooding and fetching fresh air.

'Hey! Do you have plans in finding your mate?' my wolf, Violet, inquired as I scrutinized the river in front of me with a frown. She knew I didn't want to discuss it very well, but she kept prodding me.

I am Gwen, the noblest wolf of the Blood Moon Pack, and yes, I am different from every other member of my kind. I turned eighteen yesterday, which means I have to find my mate. However, I refused to have one, which was solace because I had no plan to meet my mate.

Growing up in solitude is the finest thing ever, not because I hate to have friends but because that's the best way to preserve my life. To evade interactions and obscure my existence from the vicious cubs. Honestly, I have one friend, just one friend. His name is Matt. He is the Beta of the Sprew Moon Pack, but I had no idea who was the Alpha and Omega of their pack. Well, knowing their information wasn't my cup of tea.

I am a silver werewolf, and our breed was rare because of our extraordinary ability to heal the physical state of the werewolves. Our blood was highly versatile. We could dedicate it to someone who needed it and save lives.

'We don't need one, Violet. It's destruction, you know.'

'But you should have a mate!' Violet whined. 'I need him!'

'For what? We’re strong, and that's enough to live.'

'But you are 18. If you don't find him, I will end up vulnerable!'

'Don't worry, Violet. We're young, and our strength still has much more growing to do.'

Violet rolled her eyes at me, and I could glimpse it in my head

'You're lucky you're beautiful, or I would call you stupid.'

'Will you clam up? Why are you obsessed with seeing him when we can't even be sure if he's good or evil? What if he's also a hunter of silver wolf and greedy? Do you want us dead or alive?' I rolled my eyes at her in my mind.

Silence lingered for a moment after delivering those words; then, I recalled the stories of silver werewolves slain by some greedy packs living in the forest. Since the blood of silver werewolves was universal, Valir and other packs were hunting us to be part of their alliance. Whoever fought and refused will end up lifeless.

Those are why my parents hid me in the forest, far from the others, to maintain my health and preserve my life because innumerable foes were thirsty for my blood.

'I'm sorry. I just want to see him."

Shaking my head in incredulity. "If this is just for your petty desire, c'mon, Violet, stop that. I'm not interested."

Having someone who will protect me is not included in my goals, not even part of my vocabulary; despite the fact that my parents told me I have to find my mate, I still cannot let that happen because if my mate died, my life would also be over, and that's what I fear most of all. I would rather die under my fate's will than at my mate's hands.

'Hey! Do you smell that?'

'What?'

Looking around, I scanned both sides to see if there was an indication of any creature nearby, but then a sudden gust of wind blew through my senses, compelling me to stand to find the possible source up.

Suddenly, a loud growl reverberated in the quiet forest, sending shivers down my spine until it stopped and a fragrance of citrus invaded my nostrils. This time, the only sounds around me were the crows and the breeze rustling as I continued walking through the forest, my eyes locked on the ground beneath me as I strode. It's too dark, and maybe it's time for me to go home.

'Mate! He's here!" Violet shrieked in my mind, which surprised me.

'Calm down, Violet! There's no way we'll catch him right now,' I said as I continued walking.

'Alpha!'

'How could you deduce he was an Alpha, huh?'

'I just know it!' she claimed confidently.

Instead of hearing her assertion, I began walking, although Violet kept telling me to stop.

I was about to run, but a sudden white werewolf ran towards me. I was surprised when the werewolf tackled me aggressively onto the ground, pinning me down. Then the citrus scent hit me hard, and I realized it was indeed him.

"Alpha..." I mumbled as I met his sapphire eyes. It's majestic. But hell, I don't care.

He then stepped back, allowing me to stand up and regain my senses. I endeavored to stay subdued, but I was dying in utmost apprehension internally. Not because I'm scared of him but because I'm more than afraid that he will find out my true identity.

After a fleeting moment, he strode toward me and pivoted me while scrutinizing my whole figure. I remained hushed, nevertheless. I hated to admit it, but the way his majestic eyes met mine sent me an indescribable fervor.

'Mate!' Violet screamed in my mind as I saw how delighted she was to see him.

'Shut up, Violet!" I retorted as I glanced down at my feet, forcing myself not to look aggravated.

'We have to run!' I suggested.

'No! He will find us even if we escape!'

I was interrupted when the Alpha growled. Then he strode toward me, lifted my chin with his nose, and sniffed at me with his eyes full of intense curiosity,

For a moment, I was brooding if I should run and escape. But my thoughts swiftly faded away, and it shifted to another disturbance nearby, rendering me to swivel around. I was stunned by sight before me, yet a sense of foreboding settled over my heart when I recognized who it was.
