Chapter 33

“What!?”

Jaxson's slumped gaze arose once again from the floor. “What’s with that expression, Mr. Yves?” Jaxson said in a mocking tone. “Shouldn't you be celebrating right now? You asserted that you should have simply given your daughter to Lance rather than to me. You must be ecstatic now that you know they will be the ones to start a family with you.” Jaxson spoke in a chilly tone while maintaining his direct gaze. “I think we’re all done here. So, with the utmost respect, I'm going up to my room right now because I'm exhausted and I'm concerned that my fiance has already been waiting for me.” He added emphatically before he began to come out of the room with his eyes looking straight and didn’t bother to look back.

When Jaxson finally made it to his room, he was surprised to see Cattleya in bed already dozing off. With only half of her body on the bed, and one foot nearly slumped to the floor.

Jaxson noticed his phone near Cattleya, as well as the laptop that was still open and working. He can’t help but to smile, seeing how funny she looks. Moving carefully, he approached Cattleya who was asleep. His actions were careful so that he would not make any noise that would wake her up. Jaxson grabbed the laptop that was close to her, shut it down, and put it away. He also picked up his phone which was just near Cattleya's hand. He chuckled, thinking about her dozing off while waiting for him.

After making his bed, Jaxson lifted Cattleya gently to position her lying down and raise her legs, which were dangling on the floor. He gave her a comfortable posture before perching on the edge of the bed.

His attention was attracted to Cattleya's face while she slept blissfully. Even always being together, Jaxson never had a chance to stare at her face this peacefully.

He watched Cattleya's movement for a little moment and was temporarily enthralled. Jaxson reached out and touched her lips on both sides with his two spread-out fingers after bringing his hand close to her face. He pushed it up, creating the appearance that Cattleya was smiling.

“Pfft—” Jaxson nearly lost his breath laughing as he struggled suppressing it. “You, smiling, look better than your straight face.” He whispered to Cattleya.

The ring of his phone drew Jaxson's attention. He looked at the message he had got by lifting it in front of his face.

[Dear, Mr. Madrigal, this is BuildBaby. We are the store where you and your fiance bought baby supplies. Please call us back immediately to talk about the shipping date. Your time will be greatly valued by us. Many thanks!]

Jaxson's forehead crumpled after reading the text message. He didn't wait for any second and called the shop immediately.

He rose from his seat with the phone on his ear as he slid one of his hand on the pocket of his jeans.

[“Hello, good evening Mr. Jaxson Madrigal? Is this already you on the phone?”]

“Yes.”

[“I am very pleased to hear that. So, sir, we just called to ask about your preferred shipping date for the baby supplies that you and Ms. Daniella have shopped— ”]

“I don't like to receive all the items anymore.” Jaxson spoke sparingly and directly.

[“But, sir, all the baby supplies are already paid and we can't cancel your order since it has already been checked out and prepared-”]

“Give it to somebody else. Donate it to some orphanage or to someone you know who still needs it. Because I— I don't need it anymore. ” Jaxson stammered.

He immediately turned off the call and could not wait for the woman he was talking to on the other line to speak.

As his eyes remained in the air preoccupied, his hand that had been clutching the phone slowly dropped.

The loss of the baby has wounded Jaxson. He almost fainted out from excitement when he learned that Daniella was pregnant. He was so overwhelmed with sheer joy at the time that he was unsure of what to do. His heart seemed to be revived after his dear mother said goodbye to him.

So, when he found out about Lance and Daniella, he unfortunately lost more than just the lady he loved. But also, the child he has learnt to love, nourish, and care for the child who is inside. Discovering he is not the child's father has made Jaxson feel as though he has been tormented by fate.

Jaxson slowly lay down and took his place next to Cattleya. He is facing the back of her head. His fingers crawled to her hair and gently played with it while her eyes were still dazed.

“How would things be so different if I met you first ..?”

Cattleya had her back to him when Jaxson spoke to her in a hushed tone.

When she suddenly turned to face him, his eyes widened and his cheeks pressed up against his nose.

Jaxson puffed air to his nose, giggling, because of how adorable she sleeps. While keeping a sharp gaze on Cattleya's closed eyes, he runs his fingers down her face, ending at her lips.

“You should've come to me sooner.”
