Prologue

Trevor’s pov

I laid on my bed, staring outside the open window, the moon shining through, putting my ever anxious wolf, Drew, at ease. We loved full moons, running through the forest on a full moon is the most amazing feeling in the whole wide world, it’s like the goddess Selene is watching over her creation.

I heard a howl form the distance and groaned, closing my eyes and forcing my body to turn away from the window, I should be out there, running with the rest of the pack but no, I’m here, in my room on a full moon because I’m grounded.

Yes, I, Trevor White, soon to the Alpha of the biggest pack in the world, the demon wolf, am grounded. Why you may ask, because I got into a fight at school and no, it had nothing to do with my flaming temper, it was purely out of protective instincts.

Some idiots thought they could bully Britney and get away with it, all I did was put them in their place, and being bullies, you’d think they were man enough to take a punch or ten.

Britney is shy and quiet, though she is the beta’s daughter and very strong, she doesn’t like fighting, she would rather talk her way out of a situation than fight and those idiots think its permission to bully her. I knew it had been going on for a while but it was always just a bit of teasing, nothing extreme like putting their hands on her and she always talked me out of handling it but this time, they actually hit her.

I was on my way from the locker room headed home from football practice when I saw two guys from the basketball team slap her and push her against her locker. She would have denied it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes but lucky for me and definitely not for them, I did and I lost it, the only thing Drew, my wolf, and I saw was red and I happily let loose, I may have over done it but they deserved it, no one, and I mean no one lays a hand on my friends and gets away with it, except for me during training but I always go easy on her but that’s beside the point.

I did an honourable thing, a chivalrous deed that should be celebrated but no, mother said I am an Alpha and I should behave like one, beating people up is not always the answer and I should know better.

How was I supposed to react to people beating up my best friend, I know for a fact Mia would have done the same thing and her parents wouldn’t have grounded her for sticking up for Britney but here I was, stuck inside on a full moon, while everyone else is out there basking in the goddesses embrace.

Another howl found its way into my room and I got up, annoyed, slamming the window shut, hoping it would keep out the joyous howling of the other pact members. I wanted to close the curtains as well but I wanted to see the moon, I couldn’t be out there, feeling its cooling presence but at least I could still see it.

I slumped back on my bed with a heavy sigh, arms behind my head and eyes staring blankly at the ceiling, it’s going to be a really long night. A knock on my door pulled me out of my thoughts and before I could tell who was on the other side to come in, my door opened and a head peaked in.

“I heard somebody’s grounded” Mia said in a sing song voice and I rolled my eyes sitting up, of course it’s Mia, who else would just throw themselves in my room, “he could be naked!” I heard Britney exclaim, which made Mia throw the door open.

“Oh relax, it wouldn’t be first dick I’ve seen” she said with a little wink, I rolled my eyes at her as she came inside and threw herself on my bed, “come in and make yourself comfortable” I said with a glare. “Why thank you, such a gentleman” she said with a bright smile and I rolled my eyes at her yet again, she can be so annoying sometimes.

I'm glad my wolf has gotten used to her and actually likes her, he doesn’t take likely to disrespect and Mia is the definition of disrespect.

Britney came and sat on my other side, putting me in the middle of the two, she placed the bowl of nachos she was holding on my lap and sat back against the head board getting comfortable.

“To what do I owe the pleasure?” I asked throwing a nacho in my mouth, “we heard you were grounded and thought we’d come keep you company” Britney said digging in, “no, you wanted to keep him company, I wanted to go on a run with the pack. I haven’t been openly running with everyone for long and I wanted to enjoy it but of course you had to drag me into your punishment. In fact, Britney should be the one grounded here, she doesn’t even like going out” Mia said with a huff, chewing on a chip.

Mia got her wolf when she was thirteen or what we assume was thirteen, a month after my birthday, which we all concluded was her real birthday. She didn’t tell anyone and made Britney and I swear never to tell a soul and when she turned sixteen and was old enough to shift by werewolf laws, she shifted in front of her parents and was able to run with the rest of the pack instead of the ones we would sneak outside the territory.

“What?! Why should I be grounded?” Britney asked as she leaned forward so she could look Mia in the eye, “you’re of beta blood, future beta of the pack, strong as hell but you let those weak punks push you around when you can easily hand them their asses! I don’t know what your mom teaches you but honey, it’s not working!” Mia exclaimed making Britney gasp dramatically.

“Just because I don’t believe in violence doesn’t mean my mother’s teachings are wrong! You just love acting like a brute!” Britney yelled at Mia, who gasped just as dramatically, here we go again. “Brute?! Who the hell are you calling a brute?! Being strong and not letting people walk all over me is not being a brute!” she yelled back, why do they do this all the time? You’d swear they hated each other, mentally face palming myself, how did I find myself in this situation; I should be outside, letting my wolf tear through the trees instead of listening to these two idiots bicker.

“I don’t let people walk all over me!” Britney bit back, "then how do you explain all three of us stuck in here!” Mia retorted and they glared at each other, “can we go back to making this about me?” I asked, my eyes going over the both of them, Mia sighed and continued to eat the nachos Britney had brought along. I looked at Britney with a little pout until she sighed laying back on the bed.

We spent the rest of the night talking, laughing and watching movies, like we did most of the time when one of us was grounded and the night went on so fast, I wasn’t even paying attention to the moon or the howling outside, ok maybe I was but at least my wolf wasn’t bugging me about it too much.

I heard the sound of my alarm go off in the distance, slowly pulling me out of my state of sleep, “turn it off” Mia groaned, fully waking me up. I opened my eyes to find her face buried under a pillow and mentally chuckled, she wasn’t much of a morning person. “No, wake up, we have school, it’s Wednesday not Sunday, and I refuse to be late for school because you won’t wake up” Britney said sounding like she’d been awake for hours.

“Urg, what’s the point of school anyway, we’re graduating in three months and will run the pack together, we’re not humans who actually need a high school diploma and one day off school won’t ruin your perfect reputation” Mia groaned, sounding like she would dose off any second.

“Oh no, it’s too early to be going over this with you again” Britney said getting out of bed, going to Mia’s side and pulling off the blanket, “hey, I could have been naked under there!” Mia exclaimed throwing the pillow off her head and at Britney, who easily caught it and threw it back.

“like we didn’t all fall asleep together” Britney said leaving, I got out of bed and went into the bathroom to get ready for school as well, ”skipping one day of school won’t make a difference” I heard her groan and finally laughed because I couldn’t hold it in anymore.

“I’m so glad you find waking up at such an ungodly hour to endure hours in that hell hole funny!” she yelled and I went to stand by the bathroom door, toothbrush in hand. “You know, for an A+ student, you such don’t like going to school, which is stranger than you having an actual conversation in the morning" I said laughing, going back into the bathroom.

“I’ll have you know that grades have nothing to do with this mister” she said slamming my door shut, I laughed hopping into the shower for a well needed wash.
