Chapter 1

The pounding music and flashing lights immediately made Crystal groan. Why the hell did these witches have to find themselves in the nearest were club she thought to herself. Now she had to go and collect the bounty and return the wayward witch to her coven.

Don’t complain, Aria whispered in her head. You want this. We could be nice as safe with our mate and his pack instead of running and hiding and doing these ridiculous bounties.

Oh hush, Aria, you know we have a duty to keep the balance and that comes above all else.

Well its not fair!! And with a huff of defeat Aria fell silent.

Sliding past the huge weres on duty at the entrance of the club she was stopped by a hand on her arm.

“Sorry miss this is a closed club. Unless you are a member or a guest, I can’t let you.”

The blonde haired bouncer was gentle yet firm in his words, even though he was covered in tattoos and dressed from head to toe in black leather he was polite and had released her arm as soon as he stopped.

Crystal realized that he was a mated were hence the unusual approach instead of groping her as many had on such occasions.

Sliding off her shades she looked at him and allowed her eyes to shift into dragons’ eyes. The moment he saw her green eyes change to a golden glow with a slitted pupil, he immediately stepped aside. “Sorry ma’am didn’t recognize you.” And turned back and stopped a couple of young humans from entering.

Hmm so it looks like only supernaturals are allowed in. Hope shit doesn’t hit the fan at least there won’t be any innocent humans around to get hurt. She thought and Aria rumbled in response.

She headed for the bar as soon as she entered the music vibrating through her entire body. Shifting her eyes to see better in the flashing darkness she spotted a group of witches dancing near the center of the dance floor. Some of them barely had any clothes on. What they did have only covered the important bits and many eyes were on them as twisted and turned to the music.

As she reached the bar the congestion suddenly cleared allowing her to order without any impediment. A wry grimace lifted her lips as she ordered from the startled barman.

“Whisky”

She knew why everyone suddenly moved even though no one knew she was a dragon their instincts had kicked in and moved them out her way. Sometimes it was a curse and a blessing.

“Here you go gorgeous,” The barman flirted with her. “Anything else you’d like to have with that?”

She shook her head as she took a sip of her drink and glanced around looking for the red-haired witch she was supposed to get back home. Sliding her leather clad butt onto a bar stool at the very end of the bar she continued to look around the club. Finally, she noticed the club getting quieter and the witches in the center of the dance floor had stopped dancing and were looking at a shadowed corner.

Her senses began to tingle and she sighed and muttered, “Here we go again.”  “Yip those witches can never get home without trouble,” Aria responded.

She knocked back her drink and swallowed just as a huge burst of flame exploded from the shadowed corner, sending a group of weres flying. “I said no!!! Leave me alone.” The shouted words and flames sent some patrons running for cover while others headed towards the flame.

“You witch, stop teasing us. You want it that’s what all you witches ever want is a good f**k before you crawl back to your covens.” The outraged male voice was already changing and the last words ended in a growl that soon turned into a howl as one of the weres that had been tossed aside by the flames shifted into his wolf. The huge grey wolf was already heading back to the corner when the group of witches suddenly blocked him.

“Leave the child alone,” the green haired leader ordered.

The wolf howled and more of his friends shifted and joined him in facing the witches. As Crystal watched a slender, red-haired figure appeared behind the witches.  Suddenly the wolves were grabbed by a group of leather covered men, they were pinned and neutralized so fast that Crystal blinked in surprise. Before anything more could happen, they were quickly escorted off the dance floor and into a dark hallway away from the club. One of the bouncers nodded to the witches and approached the red-haired witch. A quick discussion followed and then she was escorted to the bar.

“Greg, get this young woman a drink and her drinks are on the house for the rest of the night,” The bouncer instructed the barman. As he disappeared into the heaving bodies once again. In seconds the situation had been diffused and everything was back to normal.

Still surprised at how quickly a dangerous situation had been diffused Crystal turned back to the bar and found the bartender already placing another whisky in front of her. He slid a red cocktail in front of the witch who appeared pale and shaken.

“Don’t worry lassie, we run a clean club and we don’t allow any woman to be harmed here. The boss will speak to those fools Alpha and they won’t trouble you again.”

“Thank you,” She murmured softly before taking a sip of her cocktail.

Brilliant sky blue eyes lifted and looked straight at Crystal, a small smile curved her lips as she tilted her head and lifted her drink for a sip acknowledging her gaze.

“Are you Crystal?” a soft voice asked.

“Yes I am. Your mum sent me to get you home safely.”

“I know I have to go back but I was hoping I could find my father. Can you help me?”

The bar tender Greg had been listening to them speak and he glanced at the blonde women with shades hiding her eyes and dressed in leather. She had an aura of danger but the young witch seemed to trust her.

He butted in, “Sorry do you know your fathers name? Perhaps I can help? The names Greg by the way.”

“I’m Maeve and that’s Crystal, a family friend.” Maeve answered, “I don’t know his name but I have a chain of his perhaps you will recognize it?”

She slid a hand into the pocket of her jeans and slid out a gold chain with a fancy locket. The locket had a crest on its closed lid.

“This is his family crest, he gave this chain to my mum.” Maeve handed over the chain to Greg.

It was only then she realized that something was wrong as she stared at Greg. He had turned white and was shaking so badly and had backed away from them. Staring at the locket he turned and bolted away from them. Startling his fellow bartender serving at the other end of the bar.

“Greg wait!” Maeve yelled grabbing the locket and turning to follow him but she found the way blocked by Crystal.

“You don’t need him. I know where you can find your father. Lets go.”

The dazed red-haired witch followed Crystal out of the club. “How come you know who my father is but my mum refuses to tell me!” Maeve whined as she followed Crystal.

Crystal chuckled as she answered, “I helped your mother give birth to you. Your elemental powers were very strong and a danger to everyone around you. I was the only one who could handle the heat. Anyway that crest belong to the Black Widow Pack.”

Maeve gasped, even a young witch like herself had heard of the notorious Black Widow Pack. Fear tingled through as she wondered if she was doing the right thing in looking for her father. Did he even know that she existed or was she just the result of a one night stand. Her inner musing was brought to a sudden end at the sound of a low enraged growl.

Looking up she saw the grey wolf from earlier standing in front of them.

“Well now, looks like these little wolfs aren’t very happy.” Crystal said.

“Maeve hit me with one of those fireballs of yours,” she instructed. Startled Maeve threw a fireball right at Crystal and watched in shock as her small fireball flared and became a huge wave of flame that danced between them and the wolves.

It mirrored every movement the wolves made and appeared to be getting hotter. Crystal slid her shades off and looked at the wolves. They could see her eyes and they began to whimper and back away from them. The grey wolf was enraged but one of the other wolves shifted and grabbed him by the scruff of his neck.

“That’s a dragon, Liam. You know what that means let’s go.”

With hatred turning his eyes red, he finally turned and disappeared into the shadows.  Crystal let the flames die before taking out her keys and unlocking a black SUV parked nearby.

“Get in and let’s discuss what you want to do.”

Maeve silently got in, still shaking from the hatred she saw in the Grey wolfs eyes. And also from the revelations of the past few minutes.

Her father belonged to the most hated and feared Black Widow Pack and the beautiful woman her mother had sent to take her home was a dragon! Something she had thought no longer existed.

“Are you going to eat me,” she couldn’t help asking. Laughter filled the car as Crystal started driving. “No, male dragons used to eat humans but we stopped it. Anyway, I’m your godmother, I’ll never eat you though I may pitch up with requests to be healed using your fire power. I need heat to heal and that’s why we became your covens guardians and your god parents. We protect each other and help each other.”
