Unforgiving

His silence was only for a second before the sound of his phone ringing blared out the awkward atmosphere.

He excused himself to take the call. I was relieved that he didn't expose us.

"Nice talk. I'll see you around, Sheldon." The ex cheerfully said before leaving. I gathered my stuff and left the beach as well. On getting to the reception with Denzel, we both received gift bags from the staff. I was excited and couldn't wait to see what was in them.

At the suite, I had already emptied my gift bag on the bed to see the items. It was a body spray, some towels and golden earrings.

"This is what I got. What about yours?" I asked Denzel when he sat still watching me.

"I don't know. I haven't checked." He breathed out.

"Fine, let me check them, then." I offered reaching for his bag.

"You can have it. Whatever is In there." He suddenly said, sounding cold and irritated.

"I didn't want to have them. I just wanted to see what's inside."

"You've had my father, my cousin, what is stopping you from having my gift bag? You can take everything, Sheldon, I don't fucking care!" He chided, livid as ever.

"I already told you I'm sorry. I didn't mean to have anything with Hunter."

"Your sorry can't undo what's already done. He could have recorded you in that room and released the tape to everyone. He's capable of that." He maintained.

His jaw was hard and he looked at me with so much anger. I knew I messed up but now, I'm trying to right my wrong.

"You have to forgive me at some point. Don't act like you didn't bring a girl over that night and screwed with her until morning. I thought you've had your pay back in full."

There was a lurch in my stomach. I felt sad, confused and fed up with the Morgans. What kind of cousin does this to his future sister in law. It doesn't add up. I'd almost say he already knows that what Denzel and I is doing is mere pretense.

He shook his head with a tired sigh.

We were both stressed out with each other. I hated it.

"You're free to be with whomever you want but I'd appreciate it if it's not any of my family. That's what bothers me." He groaned loudly.

"So, you're saying if I meet a random stranger in this hotel, I'm free to do whatever I want with him? I can even spend the night there?..."

"Hold your horses. You can't stay with him because eyes are watching us. The business men. We can't afford to create a scandal." He emphasized.

"Okay, I got it. I'll do my business in low key.' I smirked.

"I'm glad you understand." He nodded in response.

"But what can i do for you to forgive me for sleeping with your cousin?" I was pouting, hoping he went easy on me.

"I don't know. I'm still mad about it. You have to give me time to get over it." He shrugged. "It's not like he's blackmailing me or anything. He's just way too difficult to handle."

His phone rang and I focused on the gift bags as he accepted the phone call. I was taking all from what he got. I sniffed the body spray and loved the scent. The fragrance was heavenly.

Everything was going smoothly with the gifts until Denzel slammed his hand on the door in the bathroom. I immediately knew something was wrong.

"What the hell?! This shit can't be happening?"

"What's wrong?" I asked after he stepped out from the bathroom. He was looking distraught.

"That was my father on the phone. A huge money has disappeared from the company's account. He thinks it's you." He answered running his hands across his face. "I can't believe this is happening. We can't be dealing with thieves at this time of the year."

"You shouldn't in any time of the year." I mumbled. "Why is your dad blaming me anyway? I don't work for your company."

"Money was stolen, Sheldon. It could be anyone. I can't just turn a blind eye at the possibility of someone stealing from us."

"So, you believe him and you also think it's me?" My eyes watered.

"What do you mean? How's that important right now?" He yelled and I flinched. My heart was running wild. I couldn't remember how I got involved in all this. From being an ordinary student to being accused as a fraudster.

"They're running investigations at the office to find out how the money was taken." He informed checking his phone.

I stood there, numb and short of words.

"I didn't take anything, Denzel. I'm innocent." I stated trying to make it clear from the beginning.

"Normally, I would pin you against the wall and won't leave you until you say the truth but right now, I got more important things to handle. I'm traveling back to the city." He said putting a call across. "Book me two tickets back home, ASAP. Find the earliest flight."

He put the phone and closed his eyes like he was deep in thoughts.

"We shouldn't go." I muttered after pulling myself together.

"What?" He chuckled, amused.

"You have a lot of business investors waiting to see you this week. You shouldn't miss this because of an emergency back home. You should let your father handle it. Let the police and technicians do their job."

"Are you serious, Sheldon? What do you know about business?"

"I'm a college student. Don't underestimate me. You have to seal a deal with those ambassadors. Who knows when a deal like this will come again?" I spoke with my fingers scratching an itch on the bridge of my nose.

I wasn't looking professional right now but I wanted him to think with his head. Not with his emotions. The money was gone but not forever if they search deeper.

"I can't afford to regret anything." Denzel said drawing near to me.

"You won't. There's no reason to be alarmed. And even if I'm guilty, the police will figure that out and I won't leave your sight through out our trip here, that's a promise."

"Fine, don't make me regret this." He sucked in some air.

Then, he dialed a number on his phone. "Hey, don't book the plane tickets. I had change of plans."
