Evie's POV

The next thing I knew, a slap was landing on my face. It was so hard that even the two guards holding me recoiled from the effects of it. That part of my head began to ring, and I felt a headache assault me. Damon raised his hand again, and I flinched.

"How... how dare you, Evie? After I let you go?!" He stormed at me.

I would be lying if I said that I understood everything the man was saying. I didn't, but I was not about to start asking questions. I spotted Gamma Samuel pushing through the crowd and relief washed through me. I knew the man would explain what exactly had happened to me.

He got to where I was and began to examine my cheek. When he was done, he sighed audibly. His eyes held concern and pity... and a bit of distrust.

The implication of the mess I was in drew me. If even Gamma Samuel was not trusting me on whatever prompted this accusation, then I was in a hot mess. One I might not get out of alive.

"Why did you do it, Evie?" He asked me solemnly.

"Do what?
