☾☾☾ SASKIA'S POV ☽☽☽ "You are deep in thought, Luna." Maggie warbles from the hearth, where she kindles a fire. The heat in the room rises, suffusing my brittle bones, and I sigh gratefully. Count on Maggie to know what I need. My sister-in-law was fast becoming a mother figure to me, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Growing up without a mother wasn't the worst thing, as I had an attentive father and lots of older brothers and sisters who, though not related to me by blood, never acted like they were connected to me any less. We were a big family, as most packs were. Being human meant I was babied at every turn. Coupled with being a constantly sick toddler, the overprotectiveness was off the charts. In my teen years, I still had a literal babysitter until I began to rebel and demand that I be respected and given my space. I was the Alpha's daughter, after all. Wade, then Sage, joined the pack during my rebellious phase. Sage was an exchange wolf between Westardum and the Roa

☾☾☾ SASKIA'S POV ☽☽☽ A wounded look overrides the smile on Wade's lips. "I always care. You know that." "Did something happen?" I lean into him, shame washing over me, as I wonder why the wolf I know as a joker is suddenly so serious. "Why are you taking my words at face value?" He evades my gaze with ease, as the one standing upright while I'm tied to the bed by a flimsy rubber string that I'm not meant to remove. "It's not anything enough to be upset about. I guess I'm a shred tense, though it's nothing the esteemed Luna of Guttenbrieg shouldn't be able to fix with a touch of hers." Ew. Gross. "Will you ever stop?" I'm close to barfing in my mouth. "Yuck. Ugh. I don't even want to know if you had a hidden meaning behind that." I've already attached one to it, but that's far from the point. He laughs, a low, shaky sound that flips my stomach wrong. What. the. hell!? I shut my eyes to stop the ensuing madness in my head. Not Wade. It can't ever be Wade. The thought of it is dis

☾☾☾ SASKIA'S POV ☽☽☽ "Is it what you can share with me?" I hold my breath before choosing to share some of the truth with Wade. I muse that he deserves that much from me. "The message was from Absalon. He said that he'd sent me a gift, and for that, I owed him." "What!" The chair crumbles to the ground with a muffled thunk as Wade ejects himself off it curtly. "What the hell kind of gift could that be?" "You tell me." I sigh, keenly aware of the blank letter burning a hole through the bottom of my suitcase. It's not happening, but I'm on the cusp of melting into my bed like cheese in fondue at my duplicity. Note to self: "you suck at lying, Saskia." "You should share this with the Alpha." "My father?" "No, your husband." I expect a smile or swish of the brow, but his expression remains grave. "Mikael might know what to do since he's the sworn enemy of the wizard." I survey my short, neatly filed nails. It's been a while since a nail polish brush met their canvas. Might hav

☾☾☾ SASKIA'S POV ☽☽☽ A special delivery indeed it was. I'm still not sure how the guards got Mikael's project to fit through the door, but somehow they did. Now, I have a dresser that almost spans the entire width of the room and is filled to the brim with earrings, bracelets, necklaces, brooches and bric-à-brac. "He must have gone mad," I mumble as I sweep through the first drawer for the umpteenth time since the dresser made its way into the room. "Why are there so many darn pearls and gems?" There's no doubt they are genuine and must have cost a fortune. I don't know how to feel about them. Glittery pieces of jewellery are pretty and will always catch my attention, but this much at once is scary. What am I going to do with these many ornaments? Twenty drawers are heavy because of the gemstones burdening them, and I can't come up with a single occasion where they will be lighter. To make the situation worse, Mikael has not come to the house or attempted to visit me at all. I'v

☾☾☾ SASKIA'S POV ☽☽☽ "Yes. Alpha Connor mentioned that he'd deduced it was him and alerted you on the day of the attack." "Indeed," I mutter, my head reeling as details of that day replay like a taped record. Could it be that Mikael had a hand in the blind attack? No, wait. Wade's already ruled that out. Fabian was not the one who cut into our territories, so Mikael should be crossed off my list of suspicions, whether or not he is friends with Fabian. But what if... "My father also said Fabian was the Alpha of Amengal. Is that true?" "Yes and no. He was the former Alpha of Amengal, but his brother, Falcon, recently usurped him." He stills as he scrutinises the emotion I've failed to curb from seeping into my expression. "You know something?" Not by way of a question but a statement. I shake my head, but he remains unconvinced. He knows me more than most, so it's only common sense that he's sceptical. However, I can't share my fears with him. It'll only hand him cause to suspect

☾☾☾ SASKIA'S POV ☽☽☽ “Did you come to watch the practice, Luna?” A man with dark locs that trail past his shoulder blades questions in a booming voice. I repress a shiver at the power it controls, registering how the latter leaks out of him as if searching for a vessel to occupy. It takes laser focus on breathing evenly that no trembles are heard in my response. “On another day, maybe. But today, I am here to practice myself.” “Oh.” The tattoo—a half-moon around which strings of pearls cluster—below his ribcage ripples as he swivels to exchange pointed looks with his partners. The men don’t care enough to conceal the surprise on their faces or the subtle wariness that their ticking muscles present. “Is there a problem?” I speak louder than my usual, demanding the update I apparently missed. Wade shows upturned hands to me, equally as confused at this development. Neither he nor I know what the fuss is about. “None at all, Luna.” The same wolf replies again. Clearly, he is the h

☾☾☾SASKIA'S POV☽☽☽ I could plunge my knife into his gut and get him to release me. But I can't. What news will be relayed to the pack? That the Luna pacified her husband, calmed him down, by stabbing him? That she could not talk to him tenderly as one would to their significant other? Memories of Sage saturate my mind, and I ask myself a critical question. If this was his hand curled around my neck in the span of my history where I'd been madly in love with him, would I dagger him to escape? No, I wouldn't. The answer is apparent, and so is the trashing of my option of hurting Mikael, no matter how badly I am tempted to. I'll manipulate this situation to my advantage instead. Shaking my hand off the hilt of my blade, I hold onto his arm instead. My features slacken as I adopt a frailty I'd not let anyone see otherwise. I part my lips and shut my eyes, emitting weak, strangling sounds that any wolf could hear. "She's suffocating. You're choking her! Stop!" Wade yells, and I hea

☾☾☾SASKIA'S POV☽☽☽ A passage is cleared immediately as he carries me out of the training premises. My throat remains clogged up until we're close to the house. Then I muster the strength to speak, overcoming the physical and mental drainage brought about by what I'd somehow managed to execute. The question of who I am and what I've become churns my peace, swirling around in my head, but I ignore it, focusing on my present need instead. "I need a shower." "Alright," he grunts, then, holding me awkwardly with one arm, pushes open the door. I could have sworn the house released a moan of relief at our entrance as if a living being. Mikael leaves the door open and strides right in, covering the entire length of the sitting room in a trice. However, he learns his mistake because my attention remains fixed on the log gate left ajar as I stare it down over his shoulder. Retracing his footsteps, he kicks the barrier close with soft muttering. I'm too fatigued to tell him that he should

☽☽☽MIKAEL'S POV☾☾☾ She's naked. In my arms. Her hard nipples poke my chest, and rational thoughts flee. So enchanting a woman she is. She rouses a man too thoroughly. And now, standing before me without any covering to her supple body, it is as if my blood has been torched. I inhale deeply, harnessing her arousal's scent, entitling the fragrance to sprint down hubs that have gone untouched for a while. "Why, aren't you a little minx, piscín?" I nibble at her earlobe before bending to suckle at the silky skin at her neck's crook. My tongue strokes her clean body, relishing my wash's smell mingling with that which is only hers. She shudders, breath turning shallow, and I renew my incursion with vigour, savouring the muted citrusy notes. Her dainty moans maneuver smoothly through the taut air, encapsulating all in the fragile ball of a woven spell. "I did not imagine that you'd be out here seducing me this early in the day." She shoves me away. "What?" Large dreamy emerald eyes now

☽☽☽MIKAEL'S POV☾☾☾ “Thank you, Mikael.” It’s pleasing to hear her call my name instead of the formal, rigid salutation of Alpha she dearly values. “You smell more of yourself than you did in the bathroom.” Her smile is tender though laced with caution. “I used my personal products afterward.” “Come sit here with me.” She marks my instruction, and heads in my direction, taking an opposite to mine. I chuckle as she has wrongly interpreted what I said. “Sit with me in this chair.” Her brows raise, and she stares warily at my lap and upper limbs like they are contraptions that could explode at any instant. “No.” “Why not?” My grin is nothing less of a snarl. “I don’t bite.” She narrows her eyes until they are in a squint, the viridescence of her irises fading from view. “You do bite.” “I do.” I concede with a wink that she scoffs at in return. “But I won’t now, not without your consent. Not unless you want me to.” I know the look she wears. It’s one I’ve noticed to make an entra
