Tasty Surprise
Azalea I got up early again the next morning and once again joined them for a run. The sky was overcast and Rich told me that a storm would be moving in the next few days. This time we ran around the lake, the training center and the field. I remembered to keep my back turned towards them as I made my way back in the house. The kitchen smelled azaming as I passed through and I couldn't wait til breakfast. As I showered I thought about how I could show my appreciation for them taking me in this holiday and an idea came to me from the conversation we had with the butcher. He said that most of their meat came from the usual sources - cows, chickens, pigs and sheep- and that unfortunately when they settled here over 400 years ago, most of the larger game moved out of the area. As the settlement expanded into multiple towns they continued to push the animals out. There were some wild wolves and the such, but not things like deer, elk, wild boar or even bison. On occasion one migh

Hunting for Treats
Azalea I threw on my black jeans and a black turtle neck with my boots and grabbed my backpack. I put on my jacket and gloves so I wouldn't be so cold. I opened the window just enough for me to squeeze through - I didn't want them to be able to feel the breeze through the open window. Once I was sure no one was around, I jumped to the ground landing silently on my feet. I glanced around again before taking off down the road, avoiding as many street lights as possible. I made it to Corey, the butcher's, shop right after 9. He had a small refridgerated truck running and when he saw me he jumped in the driver's seat. I hopped in the passanger side and he asked me again if I was sure. I just laughed and told him, "Let's go." I asked him about the town, about the alpha - both Rich and his son - as well as his family as we drove. Luckily he had a lead foot and there were almost no other vehicles on the roads we traveled as we made good time - only an hour and a half. He said he

Meal Prep
Azalea I dozed for about an hour before we made it back to town around 4am. The town was dead quiet. As he backed into the dock behind his store I saw his younger brother and son come out to help. I asked that he send them in for a few minutes while I got the top ones out - the less people to witness my powers the better. He agreed and sent them in to make more space for what we had grabbed. Once they were inside he opened the back of the truck and I used my powers to lift several elk off the top of the pile and on to the tarp that was laid there. Once the stack was short enough that Corey could grab them, he called out his brother and son. Their eyes were huge as they saw how much we had brought back. Together we began bringing in the animals and placing them in groups. He left the deer in the truck and the bison on the tarp out back for last - not having enough room inside for them just yet. After looking over everything he told me that there was enough here to send a

Early Morning
Azalea It was a quiet walk back as I was definately very tired. I'd been awake almost 24 hours now. As we approached the back door Alex grabbed my arm to stop me. "Thank you," he said. "You have made or will be making a lot of people's Christmas's, especially the older folks. This really is a treat. I will have to let the alpha know, but I will honor your request to not let anyone else know. Even the witches in the north will be excited - not only for the meat, but for the bones and organs. And if I may, the skins could be made into some blankets, boots, jackets, wallets that type of thing. If you go see Ashley at the clothing store she actually started out by making things from scratch so she might be able to help you." "Thank you," I replied before ducking inside. I ran into Karla who handed me 2 bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches with a hug. "I got bison, elk, deer and rabbit and Corey knows you'll be coming around this afternoon for it," I said smiling back at her. "Yo

Going to see the witches
Alex Rich had called me to the pack house as I was going about my morning. When I got there there were three huge boxes right outside the front door with Rich standing next to it holding a letter. I saw the delivery truck drive away as I approached. "Good morning. It appears that Alpha John has sent his thanks to us for keeping his daughter this Christmas. I am honestly a little surprised as I figured he would be upset, but instead he sent two wild hogs and a whole crate of wild caught seafood as well as some gifts for her. I've taken those in the house, but if you could arrange for the hogs to go the butcher I would appreciate it. I'll let Karla know about the seafood. I guess this year's summer solstice will have all kinds of good food this year," He said smiling. "Of course," I replied before linking to Corey asking him to send a few men and his truck to grab the hogs. Rich went back inside and I waited for Corey to arrive. "Now I'm curious as to where these fatties ca

Witches
Azalea Cassie led me over to a house in the center and knocked. An older lady with a long silver braid thrown over her shoulder answered. "Hi Hortencia. This is my friend Azalea," Cassie said smiling. "I've been waiting for you. Come in let's talk," she replied to us. Just then Alex came up and she directed him to meet with another lady to put away the barrels he brought before joining us. I wasn't really surprised that she said she was waiting on us- everything I had been reading about witches led me to believe that some- the really powerful ones- know a lot and see more than they speak and I could feel her magic around us. We followed her to the living room and she ushered us to sit down. She had a fire going with something cooking on it as well as a tea kettle, which she pulled off. She poured us each a cup of tea and then sat down across from me. "May I speak frankly and freely?" she asked me. "Yes. She knows," I relied anxious to hear what she had to say. "For y

Christmas Eve
AzaleaNeither of us moved at first, too lazy I suppose until I jumped off the bed and said "I'll race you to the kitchen" before running to the door and throwing it open. I ran down the hallway with Cassie laughing right on my heels. The twins were on the stairs chatting with their dad blocking the whole staircase, so I jumped up onto the banister and slid down making Cassie cry out "Cheater!". I had always wanted to do that since I was a little kid but had never been to a place that actually had the right kind of stair case. I had been thinking about sliding down it since the first day we got here. I was laughing too much though to stick the landing and ended up landing on my butt at the bottom."That's what you get," she stated as she rushed by me. I jumped up quickly getting back on my feet before turning and waving to her brothers and father who were now laughing at our antics and dashed after her. She had made it to the kitchen before me and was already pulling out the thi

Christmas Morning
Azalea I had fallen into a nice deep sleep until a loud bang woke me up. I burrowed deeper under the covers not really wanting to be awake until I was tackled by two huge bodies. I couldn't see out but I knew exactly who it was by their smell and their laughter. The twins. "It's time to get up sleepyhead. It's Christmas!" Jason exclaimed, bouncing on my bed. "I can't. you two boulders are sitting on the blanket and I'm stuck," I said, my voice muffled by the blanket. They laughed some more and then suddenly their weight was gone. I snuggled into my blanket again hopeful they had left when all of a sudden the blanket was jerked from the bed. "Hey!" I exclaimed, sitting up and glaring at them. "What if I had been naked?" They both turned and looked at me for a moment and then Markus said, "Then it would have been the best Christmas ever!" They both laughed and high fived. However they did not see Cassie coming up behind them both and slapping the backs of their heads sim

Christmas Party
Azalea It was fun to watch. It looked like the twins took this one thing seriously- they had already begun to set up ice block walls in the clearing outside the hall. I'd have to remember to ask how they did that. You could see they each had a few young men and women around each of them, making piles of snow balls all along the insides of the walls that were being built. I hoped we would get the chance to watch. On the other side of the clearing was a huge mountain of snow. "What's that for?" I asked Cassie, finishing my drink. "Oh that's for them to slide down. You sit on the little plasitc sled and they push them off and they go all the way to the bottom. Do you want to try it before they get here?" She asked, seeing my interest. "Is it safe?" I asked dubiously. She laughed and grabbed my jacket handing it to me as we walked up one side of the hill. She walked me all the way to the top where Jared and a few others stood and said "We're here to make sure it's actually s

Opening Presents
Azalea "One last thing on this beautiful Christmas day. I want to thank our Christmas elf for making an appearance and bringing goodies for the children," Rich said and I blushed as the crowd cheered and clapped. I hadn't brought them I had just helped hand them out. "But even more, our Christmas elf brought the meat that will be served at your tables tonight. I know she was hoping to keep it a surprise, but alas, I couldn't let anyone else take credit. A big thank you to Corey, his family and the othe butchers who worked through the night and day to get the meat prepped, packed and delivered to you. Merry Christmas!" The crowd cheered and clapped even louder, several clapping me on the shoulder. I glanced at Alex and he frowned, shaking his head slightly, telling me it wasn't him. I feel like I met every family again as they came up to thank me again, many hugging me, which was a little awkward. I felt more than saw Rich come up behind me as I watched the last family walk
