Chapter sixty-seven

Katherine’s POV

Her deliberately vague answer didn't give me a clue as to who was with my child.

The disappointment is sharp and cutting but I don't let it show on my face.

I wanted to scream and shout and rake, but all that wouldn't do anything.

"So what now?" I appeared to be calm, trying to fool her but I saw in her eyes that I didn't fool her for a second.

"Now, I take you to him.. you're the last bargaining chip I have left. If all goes well, then he'll make me his second in command." Her eyes danced with glee at the thought and I almost laughed.

Look at how excited someone was to work with a murderer while the rest of us were trying to get rid of him.

I shook my head. "I can't believe you'd do this, you'd betray your people like this."

She snorted. "My people? The same 'people' that tossed me to the side as soon as I wasn't important enough for them right?" Her eyes turned hard. "I only look for myself, and myself. Wanna know why? Because trusting people will fuck you up!"
