CHAPTER 259
Nicholas drove to the police station. He parked his car with the other cars in the parking lot and went inside. Tightening his coat around his body, Nicholas walked to meet Noel and Elden. He already had evidence, there was a license plate that Nicholas could look up, everything must be connected and Nicholas' guess that Ace had killed Alicia's parents must be right.
Nicholas waved one hand in the air when he saw Noel and Elden talking at Elden's desk. They were busy at their computers and Nicholas walked over to them.
"How was it? Did you guys find anything?"
Elden and Noel looked up, seeing Nicholas standing next to Elden's desk. Elden was a digital expert, just like Hendrick. He was part of the IT team for the serious crimes division and Elden did his job well.
"This car was bought five years ago, but the vehicle tax has not been paid since two years ago. It seems to have changed ownership, I'm not sure if it was sold to someone else or if the owner intentionally failed to pay the vehicle tax."
That explanation came from Elden, who was also good at speaking. And Elden's detailed explanation made Nicholas nod his head, indicating that he understood the situation.
"Were you able to track the last position of the car?"
Noel replied, "We've coordinated with the traffic team, the license plate is heading towards the suburbs. It's probably close to where Jason was found, it's heading towards the river mouth. Maybe we should check if there's a garage or someone's house there, to confirm if the car is in the hands of the original owner or if it's been sold by the original owner to someone else."
Nicholas looked at Noel, then at Elden in turn. "Is it possible to go after them now?"
Noel and Elden exchanged glances. Elden then spoke up, he said, "If someone is pursuing them, there should be someone else supervising the pursuit in the office. This pursuit should be in cooperation with the team from the traffic division, as only they have full access to view the entire city's CCTV."
Nicholas snapped his fingers in the air, then pointed at Noel. "Noel, you will come with me. Elden will monitor the chase via video call. He must communicate with the team from the traffic division so that we don't lose track of the car."
Noel nodded in agreement, followed by Elden who also nodded his head.
Nicholas and Noel immediately got ready, they were about to leave the police station to conduct the chase. And that chase, caught the attention of Hendrick who had just arrived there. The man immediately sensitized and spread his arms in the air.
"Where are you guys going?"
Nicholas and Noel exchanged glances. The contents of both men's heads were almost the same. They couldn't tell Hendrick, but it was impossible to avoid the question. Nicholas then looked at Elden, from where he stood, the New York police chief was trying to code his gestures for Elden to give the same answer if Hendrick asked. "Noel and I are going to check on Alicia, I heard she saw something suspicious."
"Alicia?"
Nicholas tapped Hendrick on the shoulder, he then said, "You don't need to come with us. You need to focus on chasing Ace. OK?"
"Yes, Detective."
After exchanging codes, Nicholas and Noel managed to fool Hendrick. They quickly got into Nicholas' car. Noel turned on his cell phone and dialed Elden.
"Hello, Elden?"
[Yes, sir? Elden is ready to report from here!]
Elden's voice was quite loud, he was bold and confident. But this made Nicholas hesitant and anxious. Nicholas grabbed Noel's cell phone, then spoke to Elden who was still on standby on the other side.
"Elden, can you please keep your voice down? I don't want Hendrick to know about this chase."
[H-Hendrick? Um, he already left, Chief]
The notification from Elden made Nicholas frown. He pressed the loudspeaker icon and let Elden's voice also be heard by Noel who was preparing behind the steering wheel of the car.
[It seems Mr. Hendrick left immediately after speaking with you two, Chief. We haven't had a chance to talk yet, he seemed to be in a hurry."]
Nicholas let out a long sigh. Noel started the car's engine after Nicholas gave the signal. After a pause, Nicholas finally gave the order. "Can you track Hendrick's car too?"
[It looks like I'll need Peter's help. I won't be able to focus on keeping an eye on two cars traveling at the same time, Chief]
"Alright, let Peter help you. Tell him to go to the traffic division team center, we'll cross-communicate."
[Okay, Chief. Let me talk to Peter first.]
"Okay."
As Nicholas and Noel drove across the city, tension filled the air in the car. Nicholas couldn't shake the feeling that something bigger was going on, and the urgency of this chase further heightened his alertness.
Elden's voice crackled over the phone, [Chief, Peter is on standby. He will coordinate with the traffic team. They will help track down Ace and Hendrick's car simultaneously."]
Nicholas nodded in agreement. "Good. Let's keep our eyes on the road and our minds sharp."
As they approached the outskirts of the city, the landscape changed from an urban sprawl to a quiet neighborhood. Noel's keen eyes scanned his surroundings, looking for signs of suspicious cars. Suddenly, a flash of movement caught his eye. "Over there, Chief, I think I saw that car. It turned into that narrow alley."
Nicholas immediately confirmed Noel's statement to Elden. "Is the black car on the north side of our car the car we're looking for?"
Elden then replied, [That's right, Detective. you're close, he's still speeding, you better hurry.]
Nicholas gripped the edge of his seat. "Step on the gas, Noel. We can't lose that car. We'll see if Ace is in the car or if we'll catch another criminal!"
The chase intensified as they weaved through alleys and streets, suspect cars darting in and out of sight.
"That car is traveling fast, it seems to know it's being followed!" squealed Noel in confusion.
CHAPTER 260Nicholas clenched his jaw, his mind racing in anticipation of the black car's next move. The chase took them through a maze of narrow alleys, the city lights reflecting on the wet pavement as raindrops began to fall. The tension in the car grew with every twist and turn.Elden's voice crackled on the phone, [Chief, the car is heading to the industrial park. We have to be careful; there is a maze there].Nicholas exchanged glances with Noel, both realizing that the stakes were rising. The industrial estate was known for its abandoned warehouses and hidden corners, the perfect place for a clandestine rendezvous or a dramatic escape."Can you see where the car is headed, Elden?"[I can't, Chief. There's a fork in the road ahead, if you can't catch up, we'll lose him."]Nicholas also felt that he was under pressure, he immediately tapped Noel lightly on the shoulder and shouted, "Faster, Noel. We can't lose him! I need to see the driver behind the car.""I've done my best, Nic
CHAPTER 261Nicholas and Noel are now taking apart the car in front of them using the tools they have. They both removed the license plate attached to the car and took pictures of it. After that, they also checked the inside of the car. Of course, they used complete protection to avoid leaving their fingerprints inside.Nicholas checked the driver's seat, and he swept through the upholstery, hoping to find anything that could be checked in the lab to prove that the driver was Ace.While Noel was still busy with the luminol in his hand, he checked the back of the car and checked if there was any blood left in the car.Noel's focus finally broke when he heard Nicholas shout, "Noel, I found it!"Noel got up. He walked over to Nicholas. Nicholas came out with a strand of hair in his hand. Noel had to furrow his brow to see it."Your eyes are very sharp, Nick."The compliment made Nicholas grin proudly. He put the tiny strand of hair into a small transparent plastic bag. It was zip plastic
CHAPTER 262Noel took a step forward from where he was standing. He scanned the faces of women who looked much older than him and tried to ask again, "Are they customers at this boutique?""A few days ago, a fashionably dressed woman came here. She checked in, but seemed to be in a hurry. Perhaps she had ordered clothes and needed them right away, but the boutique was closed, so I intended to do her a favor by telling her that the boutique was closed and she could go check another day."Nicholas and Noel exchanged glances. After a few pauses, Noel finally spoke again, "Then, was there anyone else looking for the owner of this boutique other than that woman?""Yes, it was a few days after that woman came. That man did the same thing. Looked around, and tried to open the door, but in the end, I had to tell him that the owner of this boutique doesn't exist." The woman tugged on her dog's leash, while the pitbull she was carrying twirled around her legs in a spoiled manner. "Before the tw
CHAPTER 263"To hear you tell it... does Selena have a husband? Why would she leave her child here while working?"The woman smiled, she seemed to rub her palms together as she continued, "From the beginning, Selena just came by herself. She raised and cared for Glen well. We never asked about Glen's father, but from the way she acted and the way she spoke, we could tell right away that... Selena didn't have a husband."The harsh reality had to be heard, and Nicholas became concerned for Selena."By the way...what is the need for you to look for Selena?"Nicholas took out his police ID card, and it made the woman in front of him startled."Oh my! Did something bad happen to Glen and Mrs. Selena?""No, no, everything is fine. But we needed to check because we couldn't find the two of them." The woman nodded her head. "May I know your name and what you do here?""My name is Lim Sara, I have a Korean surname from my father. I work here as a nanny for the children. And one of them is as G
CHAPTER 264Nicholas and Noel found the boy squatting with his mother. The woman who had very messy hair was covering the boy's mouth with the palm of her hand. They both turned their heads in shock."What are you doing?"The woman was Selena. Selena stepped back, she removed her hand from her son Glen's mouth. Selena leaned back and made Glen's cries break out there."Huaaaaa!"The boy cried out in fear, while Noel ran to catch Selena. Selena rebelled, she tried to push Noel's hands away and shouted, "Let go of me! Let me go! I'm innocent!"The scene in front of Nicholas had left him stunned. The sound of loud crying interrupted Selena's hysterical screams. They were both terrified and this could not be allowed.Nicholas then shouted, "Enough!"and Nicholas' voice managed to make everyone stop their voices. Nicholas looked at everyone in turn, then he cleared his throat and approached Glen. Lowering his body, Nicholas patted Glen's back gently."You're okay, son. Everything is fine,
CHAPTER 265Nicholas and Noel took Amanda in their car. Glen, meanwhile, was left at the daycare center with Lim Sara. They leave Glen without explaining the details to Lim Sara, but Lim Sara understands that the situation is a real emergency. The three of them headed to Amanda's base camp. Selena was feeling very nervous as she had to return to the murder scene. Several times Selena closed her eyes, imagining how horrible Amanda must have looked after days of being left at the basecamp unburied. Their car stopped right at Amanda's basecamp. Because of its location deep in the forest, the people around were unaware of the dead bodies inside."I'm not going in. Their corpses must have decomposed because it's been a few days," Selena said, she then turned her face in the other direction."But you-" "It's okay, Noel."Noel's words were cut off by Nicholas. Nicholas turned around and pointed at Selena. "But just in case, we're going to handcuff you here. Do you agree?"Selena nodded her h
CHAPTER 266CHAPTER 266Nicholas and Noel led Selena into the police station. They prepare to conduct an interrogation in a room in the police station. The presence of Nicholas, Noel and Selena attracts the attention of the other police officers, especially Hendrick who has just returned from outside.Hendrick immediately asked when he crossed paths with Nicholas. "Excuse me, Chief. Who is he?"Selena and Hendrick exchanged glances, but Hendrick didn't recognize Selena's face. This was the first time they had met and Selena's face felt very unfamiliar. Hendrick then looked at Nicholas, when Nicholas finally answered."This woman is related to Ace's case, I will interrogate her."Nicholas pushed Selena's shoulder, about to lead her into the interrogation room, but Hendrick quickly interrupted. "Can I join the interrogation? Maybe this has something to do with the death of Jason and his family?"But Nicholas had already lost faith in Hendrick. He knew Hendrick's true purpose; getting as
CHAPTER 267CHAPTER 267Ace put on his black gloves before he got into the car. His brown eyes looked ahead, while both hands held the steering wheel. The engine hadn't been turned on yet, so the road ahead was very dark. Ace managed to hide the car in a narrow alley that only fit Ace's car. Even then, Ace had to work hard to get it out carefully. After the chase that almost got him caught by Nicholas, Ace felt even more threatened. The streets of New York City were lined with his face. He was the most wanted fugitive in New York City. Even billboards that used to display commercial advertisements or important notices were now replaced with his face. Everyone was looking for Ace Blake."Damn. Where am I going to go now? I can't go without Alicia, but taking her without a plan won't do me any favors either."After thinking for a while, Ace finally started the engine of his car. He positioned the car so that it could exit the narrow alley. The car blended into the crowded street, but Ac
