Chapter 54

Bas POV

I picked up my drink and was about to take a sip when I suddenly heard her heartbeat pounding loud and fast. Her pulse was racing.

She was in danger.

Quickly, I set down my drink and stood up, ready to leave.

"Where do you think you're going?" my father said, his voice cold, stopping me in my tracks. I turned to face him, my urgency clear.

"There's an emergency. I'm sorry, but I have to leave," I said, trying to move past him.

He looked at me, and then he did something that shocked me: he laughed. The sound was cruel and mocking, sending a chill down my spine. What was so funny?

I didn't have time for this. I needed to go, but when I tried to take a step, I found it impossible. My legs felt like lead, my head spinning. I placed a hand on my forehead, trying to stop the pounding pain, but it only got worse. The room began to blur and tilt around me.

My father walked up to me, his face twisted in a cruel smirk. He looked me up and down with disdain.

"What's happening... to me?"
