Chapter Six

Jane scanned the ruin caused by her supposed husband and boss.

She wouldn't dare address him as her husband anymore, not since he woke up from his slumber. He could kill anyone who dares to address her as his wife. Not like she was bothered. She was better off single than staying married to a man as mean as Benjamin Forster. But she couldn't ask for a divorce yet, not while Benjamin's father was away. He would never forgive her if she left him without his consent.

She would endure everything till he returns, hopefully, he will grant her request and she would go back to her little dungeon.

Her mind filters the mess before her and she resorts to cussing him silently.

“He's intentionally doing all of these to piss her off” she thought to herself.

The room was now in order, wiping sweat off brows with the base of her palm. She paused to observe what she had done so far. Satisfied with her work, she took a fake bow before strutting out of the room into the kitchen.

She knew her boss would be demanding for his lunch soon and she didn't want his usual tantrums.

Suddenly, she heard the sound of approaching footsteps and straightened herself to face whatever was coming her way.

Ken was standing at the door, his face beaming with smiles.

“I have missed staring at your beautiful face” he gawked, taking in her stressed outlook “Has my brother become too demanding again?”

If she hadn't been assaulted by him the other day in Benjamin's room, she would have fallen for his cheap concern.

“I don't remember sending for you, brother in-law.” She stressed on the word “brother in-law” and Ken rewarded her with a sneer.

“Considering what almost took place between us the last time, I believe you should have gotten a more suitable name for me.” He muttered between a toothed smile.

“And what exactly can that possibly be if I may ask?

Angry Benjamin walked into the kitchen, gritting his teeth, his wrists were rolled into a puffy ball, and that triggered fear in both Ken and Jane.

Ken forced a smile before stretching out his hand for a handshake “Welcome brother, Actually, it was nothing. I was only trying to cheer sister-in-law up in your absence”

Benjamin overlooked his outstretched hand and sneered at Jane who avoided his gaze and feigned to be busy with the cutleries on the table.

The air in the kitchen was suddenly humid, even though the heater had been turned on since 3:00 am in the morning.

“I don't think Jane needs to be cheered up. She has a lot of work to keep her busy.” Benjamin said, throwing a fierce gaze at Ken.

Without uttering a word, he turned and fled from the kitchen, leaving Jane alone to face Demond's scorn.

With a furrowed brow, he pointed at Ken's exiting figure “Stay away from my brother. I won't say this again.”

Jane fought back tears as the doctor ran a check on Jade. It was the second time she was visiting him in the hospital since she moved into the Forster's mansion.

And contrary to what her step mother assured her, Jade's treatment was yet to be paid for.

“Miss Ferdinand, we need to conduct the surgeries as soon as possible. The cancer is really eating into him” the doctor stated.

She waited for the doctor to leave before rushing to sit beside Jade on the hospital bed.

He looked frail and his chubby body had reduced frantically. He was an exact opposite of the lively Jade she has always known. His once bright face could only muster a weak smile.

“Sister, Don't stress yourself too much, okay? I will be back home once the surgery is conducted”

She couldn't bring herself to tell him that she was no longer in the family house, but married to a heartless man who would rather see her cry than smile.

She laid beside him on the bed, careful not to hurt him on his stitched arm.

At 10, he was diagnosed of a cancerous lump on his head and even though it had started with a mild growth, the lump had suddenly extended to a bigger portion of his head, causing him constant pain.

For a little boy, he was already a constant visitor at the hospital, except that this time, he seemed to have gotten an apartment in the hospital for himself.

Her eyes narrowed as a thought finally came to her mind. She was still the heir to her mother's company which was almost at the verge of folding up. Although she allowed her father and step mother to oversee the affairs of the company, she knew it was the perfect time to do the needful.

She swallowed hard at the lump on her throat. If her parents were not going to help with the bills, then, she might as well sell her own share of the business, but who would she sell it to?
