Chapter five

Her heart was beginning to pound terriibly against her chest; she fought to even maintain composure while he vented his anger at her.

“Do you think someone like you of a low background can be my wife?”

She knew she wasn’t fit to be his wife, and if she were given a choice, she wouldn’t have accepted.

“You can also forget about what my father said about wanting a grandson from you; it will never happen, not even in a thousand years. What makes you think you can even carry my child?”

He sizes her up immediately and returns his gaze to her pale face.

“Wake up from your dream, you golddigger." He fires at her, making her flinch at the hurtful words.

She knew she was not close to the women he had things to do with in the past. They were definitely classic women from renowned elite families; she was a no-body, and she clearly accepted that from the onset. He should quit with the reminder already.

She was aware that Mr. Leonard personally arranged the marriage and that the wife had no role in it. She looked like the type that preferred classic women; just like the son, she had disapproved of her at first sight.

“Henceforth, you will be my personal maid, and I want everything that belongs to you out of my room tonight.” Benjamin said it in a harsh tone.

Jane felt happy. She preferred to have a room with one of the maids in the villa rather than share a room with the devil himself.

She immediately vacated his presence and found her way into the master’s bedroom. Her belongings were neatly arranged in a corner; she quickly picked them up and raced back to Mrs. Joan’s room.

“Ma, can I share your room with you? The young master asked me out of his room.”

Mrs. Joan was not shocked; she wasn’t eavesdropping, but she had heard him tell her to vacate his room, and she had made up her mind to take her in.

Jane moved into the maid’s quarter and no longer had to bathe, massage, or read stories to an almost-dead man. In fact, she slept soundly that night.

Early the next morning, a knock on the door disrupts her peaceful sleep.

“Miss Jane, the young master is requesting his breakfast,” the voice rang out.

Jane opened the door and received a cold look from the servant. She was the same servant who woke her up rudely the other day. She begins to wonder if the lady has some personal issues with her prior to meeting her in the house.

She ignored her and moved into the kitchen. Having done most of the chores in the house, she was domesticated and very good at most house chores, unlike her stepsister, who did nothing at home.

She could comfortably cook meals such as steamed dumplings, beef noodles, and even all kinds of porridge.

She stares at the menu and marvels at how many meals they consume on a daily basis.

“Are you planning to make me serve myself?” Ben sneered.

She was taken back; she had stayed away from the dining table after dropping the plates of food on the table to avoid offending him.

She carefully walked to the table and dished out the beef noodles in front of him, and then she backed away from the table.

He takes the first bite and lingers on the taste. For someone who looked unknowledgeable, she was such a great cook. He ate a few more from the plate before slamming the half-eaten noodles on the table.

The sound startled everyone, and they all turned to look in his direction.

“What exactly are you good at? You can’t even make ordinary beef noodles.”

All eyes were on her, and they all appeared judgy. Jane scoops something from the plate into her mouth. It was delicious, just as she had confirmed in the kitchen.

“I don’t remember permitting you to eat from my plate,” he fired.

She knew he was doing these things on purpose; she could see it in the way he glared at her.

Jane returns to her room in tears. Her day was looking ruined already, and he feared he could have more disdainful things up his sleeves.

In the afternoon, the driver brought Benjamin back from the hospital; he had gone for a further checkup at the hospital. From afar, she could hear shouts from the villa gate.

“Where is that useless thing?”

Suddenly, her door burst open, and he was staring angrily at her.

Couldn’t he just knock? What if she was unclad?

Jane quickly scrambled off the bed, sensing how furious he looked. She couldn’t tell if his current anger was a result of what happened in the morning.

Benjamin pointed to his room and said, “I want my room cleaned up right now.”

She walked past him into the room and was suddenly shocked at how untidy the room looked.

If she had not slept in the room on the first night of arrival, she would have doubted that a soul lived in the room. The once neat room was suddenly filled with dirt and dust. The windows and roofs looked like they were plastered with mud.

She was angry, but she had to remain calm or face his wrath.

Benjamin had a strange smile on his face as he saw the shock on her face. “She will definitely ask for divorce after this,” he concluded.  ”
