CHAPTER 1

ZION

“How hard can it be to find this man? Am sure if you were really looking, you would have found him by now, but I get the feeling that you don’t want me to find him.” Aiden was right, father and I didn’t want him to find alpha Harold, the man was still the same tyrant he was before, and we did not want Aiden anywhere near him.

“Aiden, we have known each other since we were ten years old and in all that time, I have not told you any lies and I have kept every promise I have ever made to you. What makes you think I would start telling you lies now?” I was telling him lies, I knew where alpha Harold’s pack was, everyone knew.

But since we were children, after father brought Aiden home, he made me promise never to talk about alpha Harold in front of him. I never knew why until he told me, and I swore never to mention the man in front of him. Now my friend and beta was older and wanted his revenge on the alpha.

He asked me to help him find him and as a soon to be alpha of this pack. I had been travelling a lot to other packs with father introducing me as his heir. Aiden asked me to keep an eye out for alpha Harold. But how was I supposed to tell him that I knew the man and I had known him all my life. While he could only remember his voice?

I couldn’t do that to him. “Aiden, father is calling us.” My father just sent a mind link asking to see Aiden and me. “Then why are you still sitting? You know alpha doesn’t like to be kept waiting.” He said heading to the door. One would swear that he was the future alpha and I was to be his beta and not the other way around.

I followed him behind, he looked disappointed when I told him I could not find alpha Harold even on my last visit to the Crescent Moon pack. I was sure now his revenge seemed like a distant dream that may never come true. Aiden was like a brother to me, and I was not about to put his life in danger for revenge that was never going to bring his parents back.

“Come in.” father invited us in when we got to his office before, we could even knock. That man’s sense of smell was good. He could smell you from afar. Aiden and I walked in. “You are here, good. Take a seat.” I raised an eyebrow wondering what he called us for.

We took our seats in front of his desk and waited as he finished something on the computer. Then he closed it and looked at us. There was worry in his eyes and I wondered what the problem was. “The next pack to visit is the Moon Pack.” Father started and I stood.

How could he do that, what was he thinking? I stood by the window looking out. “Could you stop being so dramatic Zion, you have been visiting packs for the last two weeks, this one is no different.” Oh, but it was different, that was alpha Harold’s pack, the man Aiden has been looking for all these years.

“Why am I going to the Moon Pack? Its not like we do any business with them, and they are not our allies.” I asked glaring at father wondering what he was thinking. “I know that Zion, but things have changed. Alpha Harold wants to expand to our land, and we must stop him. As the future alpha, I want you and Aiden to take care of this problem. It is your first order as the alpha of the Blood Moon pack.”

I didn’t understand, I was only to take over from him in three months’ time. That was why we had been preparing. Why the sudden change and why order me to take Aiden with me? He was going to find alpha Harold if he went, and I wasn’t sure if I could stop him from attacking him when he does.

“Father, Aiden, and I are only taking over in three months. You can still go to the meeting and get the matter sorted yourself.” Father looked sad when I said that. “No son, you are taking over now. Your mother is sick, and I thought we had more time but after the test results, we got yesterday. Things are not looking good. I am taking her away to all the places she always wanted to go. You and Aiden can take over from us. We leave tomorrow.”

Sadness washed over me. Mother has been battling with cancer and we thought the treatment was working because she looked better. “It’s alright father, we will do our best to solve this problem with the Moon Pack.” I assured him. I didn’t know how we were going to solve it because alpha Harold didn’t negotiate with anyone.

He took what he wanted, when he wanted it, and no one has been able to stop him from doing so. “Aiden, my son. I want you to put this pack and your people first. Forget about revenge and do what is best for our people.” Father said and Aiden gave him a confused look.

“I always put our people first, alpha.” He said still with a confused look. “Good, you both can leave.” We walked out. “What did he mean by that?” he asked, and I could not lie to him. He was going to find out tomorrow anyway. “He meant that you should not think about your revenge when you meet alpha Harold tomorrow.” I told him then walked away fast leaving him confused.
