Chapter 3: Stepping on my toes

Four years later.

“Mummy, mummy,” the voice of my two boys came through immediately I swung the door to their room open.

“Good morning my cuties, already awake and ready for school?” I ruffled their hair while staring into their cute gray eyes just like Jeffery. They had this notable resemblance of Jeffery, thick lashes, plump lips, and curled hair. They were like the replica of Jeffery. Staring at them I felt completely ecstatic, not wanting to dwell in the past but hold onto my double elation.

“Yes mummy,” they both chorus simultaneously jolting me out of my thoughts.

“I will have Adam drop you guys off today, mummy has an important meeting please,” I pleaded as I glared at Daniel who instantly pouted his face.

“But mummy, I…” Daniel tried to grumble, making those puppy faces but I had to cajole him to give in. I can not afford to miss this meeting, or else Uncle Mark will keep jeopardizing my position.

I squatted to his height.

“Baby, mummy will make it up to you, I promise.”

I turned to David who was busy with his tap.

“Baby aren't you going to miss mummy?”

“Mummy I will miss you,” he instantly tossed his tap on the couch and wrapped his little hands around my body. I hugged him tightly drawing Daniel to the embrace. I felt peaceful holding my two boys in my arms. I'm not going to let anyone or anything come in between us. I fought back tears that were welling in my eyes and kissed their forehead.

“Guess what buddies?” I detached from the warm hug and held their hands.

“What mummy?” they both chorus

“Tomorrow is Grandpa's birthday and there will be a grand party to celebrate.” I could see the excitement in their faces as they both started hollering for joy.

“Yeahhhhh, we are going to see Grandpa!” They continue singing.

“Yes, baby.” I watch as they jubilate, forgetting that I won't be taking them to school. They were Grandpa's favorite, both eagerly wanting to be held by him. Grandpa had grown fond of them, always pestering me to drop them by every weekend, he loved them dearly. I would always catch a glimpse of my grandpa's eyes glistening with tears when I drove to pick them up after the weekend. He had earlier disclosed how he wanted to bond with me before the incident that took away my parents and me. He revealed how my parents had been involved in a car accident twenty-six years ago but when they arrived at the scene, there was no trace of me. He never gave up searching for me, because he knew I was out in the cruel world alone.

“Mummy, Uncle Tobias will be coming right,” Daniel asked, his voice dripping with excitement.

“Of course, yes buddy”

I turn to their nanny Miss Ree.

“Make sure they are okay before they leave for school.”

“Yes, ma.”.

I bade goodbye to my babies and hurried to work. A few minutes drive to the office my phone rang, I brought it out of my bag and a ray of a smile lingered on my face at the sight of the caller.

“Hello beautiful angel, hope your night was fabulous?” Tobias uttered, his voice tinged with a hint of avidness.

“Good morning Tobias, my night was good, how was yours?” I blushed on hearing his voice.

“Mine was nice, how are my two buddies?”

“They are good,” I responded, smiling to myself.

Tobias, the CEO of Holden, has been a good friend since the incident of my heartbreak. Been at the spot where my heart was shattered. Tobias has stood beside me even after his awareness of my pregnancy with my Ex-boyfriend he never let me go. He took care of my boys like they were his. I presumed my heart had fallen for him but I won't let that happen. I have tightened my grips against love, I just want to make sure my grandfather's legacy doesn't crumble under my uncle.

“Tomorrow is Grandpa's birthday, I will be dropping by to pick you up and the kids,” his voice jolted me out of my thoughts.

“You shouldn't bother, I will have my chauffeur drive us.”

“No, I'm coming over,” He persisted, and I had to give in. My boys loved his company and will be delighted to have him around.

“Ok, see you tomorrow.”

I ended the call and glanced at my watch, I was late.

“Oh my!” I muttered and maneuvered my way out of the traffic light before being caught. Within a few minutes, my car rolled to a stop at the front of Jason's company, my grandfather's legacy. I quickly jumped down, grabbed my pink suitcase, and dashed into the company.

There wasn't any time to return

greetings, as the elevator took me to the floor of the company's boardroom. The second I stepped out of the elevator, Sydney my assistant was there to welcome me with a gloomy face.

“What's the problem, isn't the meeting holding anymore?” I inquired scrutinizing her uneasy demeanor.

“Ma, I'm sorry Uncle Mark moved the meeting early, without my knowledge. I just got to find out now,” she pleaded with her face down.

My mouth twitched in annoyance as I glared at her with my teeth gritted.

“What the hell! How dare he? '' I stormed to the boardroom but apparently, it was as silent as ever, clearly showing that the meeting with the new client was over a long time. Uncle Mark is stepping on my toes. He knows too well he can't have any meetings or award a contract to a new client without my approval. He has been a pain in my neck since Grandpa handed Jason’s company to the both of us since he wasn't fit to handle the company on his own. Being the only offspring of my Father who was the supposed heir if he was still alive, it is only right if I take over my Father's position, as clearly stated by my grandfather.

As I marched to his office, I was cursing fiercely in my mind, my eyes blazing with anger but a few steps to his office door, I was informed by his secretary that he left just after concluding the meetings. I beat my lips in annoyance

“I'm not going

g to approve this contract,” I mumbled to myself and dashed to my office.
