The lake house was perfect and I could boldly say I loved it here. For someone who hadn't traveled a lot I've been to more places than I imagined these past few days even with the things that were occuring.Sighing heavily, I took in the scenery in front of me. Yes I enjoyed it here but I wasn't at peace. Not entirely.I was so worried about Riley. I endured the horrors of that place for a few days but I could just imagine how horrible it will be now knowing they lost their prized possession.Derek and his crazy sister. I shuddered at the thought of them. I had heard stories but this by far took the cake. I waited patiently for news of the captives they had managed to free but Christian keeps reminding me to be patient.“They are risking their lives and they have to be extra careful because of it. If they get caught now that they've managed to escape there's no telling exactly what that mad man would do to them” he had said.He was being sympathetic and I was grateful for that but I
I took my sweet time in showering and finding something appropriate to wear in with the lack of options I had.Seriously, I was running out of sweats and bra tops to wear. I needed to find something decent to put on for once before I lose my cool.Slamming the wardrobe still wrapped in my towel, I walked in the hallway and entered the empty room that looked like a girl lived here.I know I shouldn't enter places that I am not allowed into, but I don't remember him saying I couldn't enter this room. Yes. Satisfied with the fact that I didn't have any reason to feel like I was trespassing, I went to hunt for something to wear. And I immediately was met with success when I pulled open the doors to the wardrobe and it was filled with women's clothes to the brim.Sweet! I thought, smiling. Then I remembered how I've been wearing men's clothes for God knows how long because he never saw it important to tell me that a girl used to live here.“Hmmmm”. Touching a red dress, I thought about th
I woke up to the smell of bacon and eggs wafting into my room and tickling my senses.I let out a loud yawn and quickly left the bed tripping and tumbling over myself before I could make it to the door. With one eye open I made it to the kitchen just in time to appear normal.I sniffed my way to the pan on the stove and just filled my belly with the smells.“Have you had your fill? Or do you want to sniff some more?” Christian said from behind me.I whipped around to find him smirking proudly at me and gauging my reaction he could see that I wasn't fully conscious of my actions.Wiping my eyes with the back of my hand one more time, I finally shook some of the sleep out.He moved towards me with lightning speed and before I could blink he was standing in front of me.Every residual sleep left in my eyes vanished the second he appeared in front of me.I found myself staring at his chest for what seemed like minutes but was actually seconds.I took a step back when I realized he was jus
I was frozen in place for a few seconds in shock. Riley was standing there, her face was covered in dirt and her hair was matted like fur.But with all the bruises and dirt on her she still had a smile on her face.“Good to see you, C” she said weakly.I sprung alive and ran to hug my best friend. I just held her there willing the tears away as they threatened to spill but I knew she wouldn't like that.“Oh my Goddess, I can't believe it. I can't believe it….” I said touching her face and checking all over her body for any injuries.“You better believe it,” she said with a smile and winced immediately at the gesture.“Oh– I uh– please come in. Let me take care of you” I said, taking her hand and leading her into the house.“It's okay, C. Just show me a room and I'll freshen up” she said.I looked at her with a tender smile on my face. She was always such a brave one. And she never liked it when she was put in a position where she couldn't help herself. All the time we were interacting
I have tried, and failed, not to think about the night we kissed. I could still feel his lips on mine, the tingling sensation when his hands caressed my body.I shivered a bit watching his back move as he turned the corner. I shook my head, this was not the time to be imagining things like this.He turned back to me, as if hearing my inner thoughts, shot me a pointed look and shook his head teasing me.I felt blood rush to my face. Oh my Goddess he knew, he had to. Why else would he look at me like that?“Come inside” he said, gesturing towards the door of his office.I stepped inside the room and was met with the same men that had come to the old safe house we were in. Mason and his men.“You remember Mason?” He asked, leading me to a chair beside him.I nodded my head and waved to him in greeting and he nodded back at me.“Him and his men succeeded in extracting most of our pack members that were still held captives which included Riley” he said.“Thank you. I'm eternally grateful”
We spent the majority of our time together talking, Riley and I, we missed each other's company so much.Riley will not stop teasing me and it was evident I didn't really have a problem with it.Aside from the fact that I was as red as a tomato because of Riley and her lack of a filter, it feels pretty good to just be with my best friend.“So…give me the deets. What has been going on with you two alone in this big house” she asked inquisitively.I just shrugged and looked away from her for a moment.“We've really just been surviving. Nothing special” I said looking down at my nails.“Anddd by nothing special you mean….?” She said waving her hands in a go-on gesture.“I mean, he takes care of me, you know,” I said, sighing heavily.“Okay you're really giving me the turnabout here” she said, throwing her hands up in surrender.I laughed at her incredulous expression. She was so easy to read sometimes.“Seriously, there's nothing else to it. We just tolerate each other and by the way we
Riley kept squealing and doing different tricks in the water. It genuinely looked like she was having the time of her life and I was like a proud mother hen for it.I remembered seeing a lake the last time I wandered off on one of those days when my head was everywhere. So my brain let off a light bulb when I thought about what we could do for fun. I also did it to cheer Ri up.I know she deserves to smile. She deserves every bit of happiness I can provide for her.I made my way through the water floating backwards and listening to her screams. It was a perfect day and I was well rested.“You know, I really believed you were bringing me here to execute me” she said chuckling. She swam close to me, watching me float on my back, smiling.“You've always had a creative imagination. But why would I want to ‘execute’ you like you say?” I asked teasingly.“Oh, you know. Revenge for all the things I did to you growing up. All the pranks I pulled on you” she said hysterically.I doubled over i
I ran out of my room and into the kitchen as fast as I could. My heart was beating as fast as a drum but I didn't mind.Already, I had played out different scenarios about what could've possibly caused the crash when I got to the kitchen and I saw Christian standing there with blood dripping from his hands and broken glass at his feet.“Oh– are– are you okay?” I said, rushing to his side in a panic.I picked a cloth immediately and ran it under the water for a while and brought it to his hand.“Here” I took his wounded hand and started cleaning the blood from it.He groaned in pain and just seemed to close his eyes for a few seconds and when he opened it he was just staring at me.“What happened to you?” I asked him tentatively. He sighed and ran his free hand through his hair. By the looks of it he seemed to be doing that a lot, his hair was messed up.“I came to get a glass and guess I was just tired so it slipped and broke. I tried to pick it up and…” he said, gesturing to the bloo
