Chapter Eleven
The house looked exactly the same when we returned to the estate on Wolf Mountain.  My grandmother was the first to mention it, although, I had to agree.“You’d think that, after two years, something would have changed,” she complained.“Perhaps our dear Maryanne prefers to keep things as Pinky liked them,” my grandfather mused.Eliza Cramby eyed her husband with a critical glower.  “Even in death Martha has you wrapped around her little pinky, does she not?”“Why do you say such a thing?” my grandfather complained.   He looked directly at me and smiled. “Now you know why she was nick named “Pinky”.  My poor jealous wife has always believed that your great grandmother had me wrapped around her little pinky just because I could deny her nothing.”I giggled.  “Isn’t that kind of like having you wrapped around her pinky, then?”

Using my magic to find missing objects was one of the first things I’d been taught, but it never occurred to me to use it to find a missing person.“That’s an excellent idea, young Walters,” my grandfather said with enthusiasm.  “Missy, why don’t you go out and ask the trees who took her?  Surely, if they don’t know, they can find out.”I couldn’t help having a flash back in my mind of my life in the suburbs of Chicago and imagining how my friends would react had they been in the room to witness such a suggestion being made by my grandfather.  Then, they would probably still be picking themselves off the floor and wondering what I’d spiked their  drinks with after just seeing us materialize out of thin air.“I can give it a try,” I said as I stepped toward the front door.“Wait!” Kenton said with urgency.  When I stopped in my tracks he added, &ldq

I watched out of the window until I could see Godwin’s army approaching.  Without waiting for Kenton’s approval, I flung the door open and shouted for him as I ran into his arms.Although I wanted nothing more than to spit in his face, I returned his kisses with the passion that one would expect to be in a woman who’d been kept from her one true love for two years.“My love,” he laughed wildly while saying between my fervent kisses, “my beautiful Missy,  I can’t breathe.”I stopped kissing him and buried my face into his neck – more to hide my revulsion than anything else – while I murmured my woes at being kept from him.“I thought I was only going for a short visit.  My grandfather said that he wanted to show me my heritage.  I had no idea that I’d be kept a prisoner,” I whimpered.  “Do you still want me?  Tell me that you still love me, God

I did my best not to move in a way that showed just how uncomfortable I was in my own skin when I followed Godwin back down the stairs.  Kenton was sitting in a side chair conversing with one of the vampire army leaders through the open door since he couldn’t enter because neither my mother or I had invited him in.  Kenton scowled when he saw me wince as Godwin playfully patted my backside, but he said nothing.“So, cousin, it seems your lover has gone missing,” Godwin bellowed as he strode across the polished wooden floor.“Lover?” Kenton said with confusion.“Okay, maybe I should have said former lover,” Godwin said with a roll of his eyes.Kenton gave me a curious look.  “I’m still not following.”“Maryanne, you idiot.  You’re the one who told Missy she was missing.  What is this?  Out of sight, out of mind?” Godwin clucked his tongue as h

I felt more like myself when I climbed out of the bath and put on some fresh clothes.  Kenton must have heard me moving about because when I reached the main floor, he was waiting outside on the front lawn for me with both Maximillian and Roger tacked and ready to go.The night air felt cool on my still damp skin and I shuddered.  Kenton reminded me that fall was upon us and that the nights could get particularly cold.  Upon his suggestion, I scooted back inside and tied a hoodie around my waist by its arms.  It was better to be safe than sorry. It had only been a few months for me since I’d ridden Roger, but to Roger, it had been a few years.  His enthusiastic response to seeing me was heart wrenchingly wonderful.  Once again, my tears flowed and I had to excuse myself for being overly emotional. When Kenton informed me that my emotional outbursts were a result of an on pour of vampire venom in my system, I hated Godwin even

It was only minutes that we had to wait to make sure that the  wolves had left, but it felt like hours.  Once he was sure that the coast was clear, Kenton quickly duplicated what he’d seen Stanley do with the dials and switches on both machines.  Motioning for me to help Cindy, he pulled my mother from the tube and stretched her out onto the floor.  I did the same with Cindy. For a moment, I stood, worriedly, over them while I waited for some signs of life.  Neither one was breathing.   Since Cindy was a vampire hybrid and I was fairly certain that she’d be fine in a few minutes, I decided to focus on my werewolf mother and I quickly performed CPR on her; or what I knew of it, since I’d never been officially trained.  What I’d managed to do was enough to get her breathing again.  I jumped back when a large amount of the solution she’d ingested projected out of her mouth.I held my finger to my l

Sleep overtook me almost as soon as I’d sprawled across the bed.  The sun was waking up the world by the time Godwin arrived to disturb my blissful sleep with the outlandish raucous he was creating in the foyer.Thankfully, both my mother and Cindy had gone to bed hours earlier so there was only Kenton to greet him when he came bounding into the house.  His argument with Kenton was loud and threatening.  He insisted on being allowed upstairs to my room while Kenton was determined that I not be disturbed. I was at a loss at what to do.  The last thing I wanted was to be stuck behind closed doors with Godwin.   Whether I was with Kenton or not, I still wanted Godwin out of my life and, preferably, serving time for his dirty deeds. My mind worked, frantically, to think of how to handle the situation.  Fortunately, only Godwin was able to barge his way into the house.  His entourage of half a dozen vampires w

We watched, in silence, as Billingsworth and Godwin dissolve into nothingness.  Then, without a word, Cindy marched to the front door to inform his entourage of vampires that their leader was gone and that they needed to leave the premises.  They resisted, at first, but, with a little prompting from Kenton, they grumbled their way back to Godwin’s home.I stood in the open door beside Kenton as he watched the vampires slink away.  Our bodies were so close that their auras were caressing each other.  It felt so comforting and sexy that I didn’t want to move.“I’ve never stopped loving you,” he said while staring  through the opened door.  “I can’t believe that you’d let Godwin poison your mind like that.”“It wasn’t just Godwin,” I said, hesitantly.  “It was the way you and my mother behaved.  You were rather cozy last night.”“

Chapter Nineteen
Since Michael had previously been warned by the Association to stop his sordid method of increasing his pack, he was already under fire.  In fact, that’s why he was at war with the vampires. It was risky to expose ourselves to the vampires when we’d taken the head of the committee into custody, but we felt best about turning Michael’s fate over to them rather than take his life.  Cindy was appeased by the fact that the odds were high that they’d execute him anyway.  Turning Michael over to the Association would also insure the release of the kidnapped girls. With that decided, we proceeded to work out a plan to capture Michael.  Since the moon would still be full  that evening, we knew that he would be out and roaming the mountain with his men.  What we weren’t sure about was what the vampires would be doing without Godwin to lead them. Kenton had no choice but to go before the Association t

Chapter Twenty
I don’t know if Cindy took a good look at the dead guy or not because I made sure to avert my eyes.  It was important that I not do anything that would jeopardize my staying invisible.  I was already laden with guilt over taking a life, even if it was the life of a vicious, dirty werewolf.  Maybe if my victim was in wolf form, I wouldn’t have been as upset, but, to anyone who didn’t know what he truly was, he looked like a dead human lying in the closet doorway with his head smashed open.Cindy raced to the attic door and kicked with all of her might.  When the door split into several sections and fell away, she wasted no time rushing up the stairs.  I made sure that I stayed close, but not so close that I’d be taken by surprise should Michael have something up his sleeve that we weren’t prepared for.I stopped at the top of the stairs and covered my mouth with my hands to force back the gasp that almost escaped it
