Chapter forty two

Narrator's POV

The City

"Could you go any faster? ", Joe asked the taxi driver.

"I'm trying to ", the old man said.

Hope groaned.

"Maybe she's just sick".

She glared at him. Gone was the smiling attitude she kept with him.

"Because you overwork her. You're an enslaver".

"What is this about? ", he asked shocked.

"All she wants is your forgiveness and understanding. She understands if you want to move on... ".

"Wait.. ".

She cut him off. "I know everything that has happened. She broke your trust, but this is no way to treat the one you love. She's been working her ass for someone who doesn't appreciate it".

The taxi driver tried to intervene.

"Drive faster! ", she screamed.

"Kids these days", he muttered.

Joe kept quiet for the rest of the journey.

He had no idea that Emily was overworking herself for his sake. He didn't deserve the paycheck.

Hope banged on the door.

"Emily! ", she screamed.

Joe put his hand on the door and it gave way, opening.
