Two Hundred and thirty one

CHAPTER 231

The sound of a car in the distance made Ace, who was busy checking his cell phone, look away. The spotlight from the car that was about to turn made Ace's eyes glare. But his gaze became alert. From the silhouette of the car on the other side, Ace could see Alicia laughing with Nicholas. Ace squeezed the edge of the steering wheel, before he finally drove off in the car he had managed to get from Alicia.

Ace had been keeping an eye on Alicia for the past two days, trying to record all of Alicia's activities for a greater purpose.

On the way, Ace muttered under his breath. "This city is too cruel for you, Alicia. You should come with me. We'll leave all this behind and start a new life in England."

On the other hand, Kevin had just walked into his house. Not even a few steps in, the living room light, which had been off, turned on by itself. Kevin was startled. And when he turned around, a slap landed on his cheek abruptly.

PLAK!

Because of the severity of the slap, Kevin fell to the floor. The man was not prepared for whatever had just attacked him. Kevin looked up quickly, and he found Hailey looking at him angrily. Hailey's brown eyes looked Kevin straight in the eye. She was not provoked.

"Mom?"

But Hailey didn't stop there. Instead, she kicked Kevin, who was still on the floor, several times hard and mercilessly.

Kevin tried to raise both hands to protect his body from his mother's kicks, he also tried to raise his hands in the air and signal that he was in pain.

"Mom, stop it, it's hurting me!"

But Hailey didn't stop. She was still kicking at Kevin, until Kevin finally dared to grab one of Hailey's legs and make his mother fall backwards. Now they were staring at each other. Hailey with an angry look, while Kevin looked confused at his mother.

"What are you doing, Mom?"

Hailey frowned. "Me? You're asking me what I did? Are you crazy, hm?"

"I don't understand, mom!" Kevin raised his voice.

After that, the woman in her gray sleeping pajamas got up. She stood up first, then folded her arms across her chest, while Kevin stood up after Hailey.

"I told you to stop associating with that ex-cop's son, Kevin. Why didn't you listen to me?"

Kevin finally understood why his mother acted the way she did. But instead of feeling guilty, Kevin straightened his shirt that was messed up by Hailey's kick and smiled. He was really weird!

"Look, Mom. I love Brittany very much, she's pregnant with our child. And as a man, I have to take responsibility for my actions. You should be proud that you raised me to be a real man."

PLAK!

Another slap landed on Kevin's cheek, Hailey did it without feeling sorry for him. Hailey pointed at Kevin's face, which now had a confused expression.

"You've really lost your mind huh? You want to take responsibility after almost leaving her in the car after the accident. If she had died in that accident, you wouldn't be able to be here and see me." Hailey shouted angrily. "Your father got you out of prison, but you're busy taking care of useless things like this. Who do you think you are without your parents?"

Kevin let out a long sigh and stuffed both hands into his pants pockets. "After slapping me twice, kicking me, leaving me lying on the floor, I want to hear for myself, what do you really want from me now?"

"Are you deaf? I want you to stop thinking about Brittany, let her go, live your life, move on, continue your father's career and make things right. I'd be embarrassed if I had to see you hooking up with Brittany again!"

Kevin's eyes narrowed, his frustration bubbling under the surface. "You should be ashamed of yourself for treating your own daughter like this, Mom. I'm not giving up on Brittany or our son."

Hailey scoffed. "You're a fool, Kevin. You threw your life away for a girl and a mistake. Your father worked hard to build a legacy, and you're wasting it on what? Love?"

Kevin shook his head. "Love is not a mistake, Mom. And I'm not going to let you dictate how I live my life. If Dad were here, he'd understand."

Hailey's expression turned cold. "Your father would be disappointed in you, Kevin. You're choosing the wrong path, and you're jeopardizing everything he's worked for."

Kevin shrugged his shoulders. "Maybe it's time to question the path you've set for me. Maybe it's time for me to find my own path, with Brittany by my side."

"Your father went to work all the way to a foreign country just to raise an idiot like you! What an ignorant child!"

Hailey grabbed Kevin's hand, pushed him to the floor because he was unprepared and kicked him again like in the beginning.

But this time, Kevin rebelled. He tried to roll over, avoiding his mother's violent kicks and emotions filled his soul.

Kevin managed to stand up, he looked at his mother once again and said, "I'm going to live with Brittany. Get out of my way, Mom!"

Hailey's eyes blazed with anger, and she stood there, blocking Kevin's path. "You think you can just leave, Kevin? You're making a big mistake!"

Kevin's resolve did not waver. "I'm not going to let you control my life anymore, Mom. I'm going to be there for Brittany and our son. If Dad was here, he would understand the importance of family."

Hailey's face turned annoyed. "Your father worked day and night to give you a future, and you throw it all away for a girl who drags you down."

Kevin took a step forward, his voice firm. "Brittany isn't dragging me down; she's the love of my life. I wouldn't leave her or our child. You can't make me feel guilty for following the path you've chosen for me."

Hailey's anger grew, and she moved to block the door. "You can't leave, Kevin. You stay here and follow the rules of this family!"

But Kevin, driven by his newfound sense of independence, pushed his mother away and headed for the door. "I'm sorry, Mom, but I have to live my own life. Goodbye."
