Alexa’s point of view Perhaps going to his office had actually been useful, perhaps it had helped more than I knew, perhaps I just had to be open minded about it. But who was I kidding? It obviously wasn’t that easy, I felt as though my heart had been ripped out of my chest, felt as though I had been stabbed over and over and over again. Sitting there beside Calan in the car during the drive back home was torturous, I wanted to cry but he had literally begged me to put an end to my crying, and I had forced the tears back and had locked them somewhere knowing they’d break free the very second I was away from him.He hadn’t said much since he got me to stop crying, he had simply sat there absentmindedly staring ahead, I could tell that he wasn’t in the best of moods at the moment, but a lot of that was going around so the entire drive was quiet. And when we finally got home he got out of the car, walked to my side, opened the door and helped me out like he always did. I had expected

“You might want to think twice before drinking too much, after all Alexa has lost too much already”. Micheal’s subtle voice came smoothly from behind him. “You said it yourself”. He occupied the stool next to Calan’s and signaled to the bartender.“I’ve only had two”. Calan said quietly. He knew it probably wouldn’t end well for him but he didn’t care at the moment.“And I assure you there’ll be no more”. Micheal said to him. He nodded“Yeah, that’s probably why I had you come here”. He said as he let out a heavy breath. “Alone, I’ll get myself killed before the night is over”. Micheal shook his head.“What’s the problem?”. He asked him just as his shot arrived.“Sore conscience”. Calan replied. “Very, very sore conscience”.Micheal raised the glass to his lips and downed the shot.“What have you done this time?”. He asked him. “And how’s your wife?”. Calan raised his tired gaze to meet his.“She’s better, physically”. He replied. “But I suppose she’s a wreck emotionally, at lea

Third person’s POVCalan had begun sweating profusely and feeling nauseous when he arrived home, nonetheless, he had called Micheal to let him know that he had gotten home in one piece. He had headed to his room at once hoping he was quiet enough to not alert Mildred, however, the older woman soon came hurrying from the kitchen area wearing a worried expression.“Is there a problem, Mildred?”. He asked first hoping to turn the tables on her.“I should be asking you that”. Mildred said. “Why do you like this? And why did you stay out late? Are you feeling alright?”. “I was with Micheal”. He said to her knowing she’d be less worried if she knew he had been with Micheal, the very responsible Micheal who wouldn’t let him do anything stupid. Her gaze raked over him quickly, again and again and again, and she stepped forward and placed her palm on his clammy temple. He watched her eyes flood with worry and he let out a somewhat exasperated breath.“What have you done to yourself?”. She as

Alexa’s POVI couldn’t sleep, whatever sleepiness I had been feeling earlier vanished and I found myself staring at Calan in the dark, found myself worrying about him, found myself praying he would be alright. He had fallen asleep not too long after we had gotten in bed and I was glad, but my heart kept on pounding heavily as I had reached out and touched his temple to feel his temperature; I had found his skin clammy and it worried me more. Not knowing what to do, I inched closer to him and buried my face in his chest hoping that I’d stop worrying and fall asleep, and I was relieved when I felt him drape his arm around me, at least I knew he wasn’t overwhelmed by a fever which rendered him oblivious to his surroundings. I let my eyelids droop and after what seemed like an eternity I drifted off. I’m not sure for how long I had slept, but my eyes fluttered open when I felt movements from beside me, my eyes widened and my heart skipped as I thought for a moment that he hadn’t gotten

Alexa’s POVI had woken up to the sound of an alarm ringing softly, and though the tune was calm and quiet it irritated me more than I could ever express. I begrudgingly pried my eyes open in time to see Calan sleepily reach out and tap on his phone which was on the night stand to turn of the alarm, he let out a heavy breath and for a moment he just lay on his back staring up at the ceilings, and I stared at him, watched him quietly, and I realized that staring at him quelled my irritation.“Good morning”. I greeted quietly. His gaze flickered from the ceiling to mine and the sides of his lips pulled up in a faint smile.“Good morning. Did you sleep well?”. He asked me and I nodded.I had slept well, I may have been worried about him but I had slept well because I had been in his arms, because the soothing fragrance of sandalwood had been with me all through the night.“Are you feeling better?”. I asked him.He looked better, it didn’t seem like he was trying to suppress of hide a fe

Third Person’s POV“That will be all for now, class is dismissed”. The word Alexa had been anticipating finally left the professor’s mouth. She let out a relieved breath as she began packing up her books, it had been a long day for two reasons, the first being because everyone had been staring at her whispering about how she had rolled off a flight of stairs, and the second being because she had wanted to be back home the very second she had stepped a foot into the school. Finally done with the day’s activities, she stuffed her stuff in her backpack, got on her feet and headed out, all the while trying not to mind the fact that people continued to stare and whisper still. Was it truly such a big deal that she had fallen of the stairs and hurt herself? People fell all the time, no one seemed to mind them so why were they so inclined towards making a deal out of the fact she fell? ‘….thought Ren said she was in a coma?’. ‘Well she’s right there, isn’t she?’. She shook her head subtl

Third person’s POVNot much had been said during the drive home or even when they got back, Alexa had gone upstairs to her room, freshened up and had returned to have dinner with Calan. There was just this feeling of wanting to talk about the fact that they had stumbled upon Layla but there seemed to be nothing to say at all. Her heart was all heavy and her confidence had dwindled significantly on seeing Layla, she felt silly to have actually thought Calan would eventually develop feelings for her; Layla was perfect, she was the most flawless lady she had met and she hadn’t been able to get Calan to love her, who was she to get him to love her then?“I thought you were hungry?”. Calan spoke up at last. She realized she had been eating very slowly, the food seemed almost untouched.“I am”. She replied.“Then why aren’t you eating?”. He asked her.“I…am”. He shook his head but said nothing, it was clear that her loss of appetite was the least of his concern at the moment.“Aren’t yo

“Will you be needing anything else sir?”. Rita asked before leaving. Shaking his head, Calan replied;“No, that will be all for now, thank you”. Rita nodded before turning around and heading out. Left alone again, he tried his possible best to focus on his work and nothing else, he didn’t want to think, didn’t want his mind wandering back to Alexa, to Layla and to everyone else he had let down in the cause of his life. It was a new day after all, however retched the previous day had been wouldn’t affect him today if he didn’t allow it.He narrowed his eyes at the screen of his MacBook when he realized that he was zoning out, that he wasn’t truly paying much attention, that he was thinking about the very people he didn’t want to think about. He let out a breath before she his head and rubbing his temple wearily; he needed to pull himself together, needed to lock out all the bothersome thoughts, all the guilt and shame, he needed to focus. And after a moment of just sitting and crying quietly, Layla decided to pull herself together, she dried her eyes and dragged in a deep breath to calm herself before she spoke again. “Truly Calan, I feel sorry for your wife, the poor thing doesn’t know what she’s gotten herself into”. She said to him. Calan merely shook his head. “We’ve been married for two years, you really think she doesn’t know what she’s gotten into?”. He asked her. And a humorless chuckle left her. “She will, just give her three more years”. She said. “She has no idea just how much you can rip a girl’s heart out, just how much you can render a person useless to themselves”. “Will you ever forgive me?”. He asked her. And she shook her head almost immediately. “I don’t quite think so”. She replied quietly. “You ruined me to the point that being with another man makes me feel weird, to the point that another man’s touch just isn’t satisfying”. Calan averted his gaze from hers. He knew he had hurt her by

Alexa’s POVIt had been a long day; it was bad enough that I had been sad all day, and the fact that classes just had to be more exhausting made it even worse. It was October and the school had been abuzz with the whole Halloween parties and all, and I probably would have been excited to throw my own party if my mood wasn’t so horrible. Not to talk about the fact that everyone kept staring at me while whispering about how good Layla looked with Calan and all, it had bothered me so much that for a moment I had just gone to the restroom and locked myself in a stall, and I had cried, I had let my tears flow freely till everything became numb and blurry, and I had wiped my eyes, washes my face and tried to appear natural.I was certain I would be able to deceive everyone, or at least I was certain no one would care enough to bother me about it, but then came Micheal’s class and we had made eye contact though I had sat at the far end of the lecture hall, it was almost as though he could
