Chapter fifty-four

Katherine’s POV

"Hey, Katherine!" Doctor Mallory, who insists I should just call her Mallory, waltzes into my room with a wide smile and a bag of chocolates in the other.

"Hi!!" I responded just as eagerly as dropped the boxes of chocolate on a nearby table, craning my neck to see what was inside. "Whatchu got there?!"

She gives me a secretive smile, hanging her stethoscope around her neck. "Nothing you need to see." She says coyly and goes about with her exams, pretending to ignore me.

I sit back down on my mound of pillows with a huff, folding my hands beneath my breasts. "Really? You're going to do this to me?" When she continued ignoring me, I could a faint hint of a smile peeking through from her otherwise serious expression. "You know torturing a bedridden pregnant woman with a bag of chocolates far from reach is borderline wickedness, right?" I groaned, my mouth watering the longer I stared at the box.
