Chapter twenty

Caleb’s POV

"Hey, have you seen anything yet?" I half yelled and half whispered. I paced back and forth on the ledge, half leery of the steep edge and half anxious as I waited for some news from above.

And by above...I meant Daniel.

Only the loon seemed to love me drowning in misery since he stubbornly refused to reply to any of my questions for the past ten minutes.

His legs dangled from the small alcove a couple of feet above us, while the upper half of his body was somewhere I couldn't see.

A couple of rocks skittered away from my feet and rolled down, down, down… into nothingness.

The eerie silence following the rock's departure made me nervous, and I swallowed thickly.

I inched closer to Daniel's legs and tapped his thigh.

No response.

So I shook the pant leg of his trousers

"Daniel, anything?!" I squeaked out, and
