Chapter thirty

Katherine’s POV

It was a slow but steady progress that we made moving through the cities, Caleb and Daniel looking out for me.

Ever since that night that Ethan had ambushed us, Caleb arranged it in such a way that one of us would always watch the others throughout the night. This was so we wouldn't be taken unawares again.

I was getting better, and stronger as the days passed and I got my strength back. Most of my bruises had faded to a pale yellow, and sooner rather than later they would disappear altogether.

When I bent forward, I caught Caleb's admiring look as I brushed my hair over my shoulder. I looked away and ducked my head allowing my hair to shield my face so he wouldn't see me blush. Since that night under the moonlight when he had confessed his feelings for me- even though I hadn't said anything back- it didn't stop him from staring at me with a weird expression on his face every time he thought I wouldn't notice.
