Chapter thirty-six

Katherine’s POV

I rushed over to meet Caleb halfway despite the blood running down his body, and he welcomed me with a one-armed hug.

I started fumbling over his body, checking for wounds, cuts, and scrapes on his body. He looked at me weirdly but allowed me to search to my heart's content until I found out that most of the blood was not his.

I knew I was angry at him, but I didn't want him to die…. not yet anyways.

When people started to crowd the front of the house, he subtly pushed me behind him, taking a step forward as the leader he was.

They were staring at the lady whose neck was awkwardly twisted to one side.

"Time and time again, I've had to prove to you all that I'm here to serve you." Caleb started to speak, and although he didn't shout as much, his voice echoed loudly for all to hear. "Whoever might have done this," a single glance at the dead wolf and he continued, "would be excused but make no mistake, it will not happen again! Yes, I failed you by leaving for years on e
