Caleb’s POVI pretended not to be afraid, but fear was flowing through my veins. Daniel kept his cool, but I knew that he wasn't ready yet for another face-off with battle. I mean he was just recovering from the poison in his bloodstream, so his apprehension is understandable.I turned to address some of my guards, my betas, and the Enforcers that surrounded me when I saw her.I grabbed her elbow in anger and dragged her to the corner of a room. "Why are you following us?" I hissed under my breath. She pasted a clueless expression on her face, but I wasn't buying it at all. She knew what she was doing. "Nothing. I just wanted to tag along."I scrub a hand over my face. "Well, you can't and I'm serious."A look of dismay crosses her eyes. "But why? I just want to help."You can help from here…I just got you back, no way am I putting you in harm's way.I have a right to make my own decisions, and I want to help."A long sigh of exasperation escapes me. "Katherine, listen, I understand y
Shadow’s POV"Sir! You have to see this!" The voice boomed from behind the closed door, and I groaned in annoyance. The girls who I'd spent the night with also awoke from their slumber due to the ruckus. They jerked awake and immediately started to dress up, their bare bodies rubbing together enticingly.I started to have second thoughts about indulging the more I stared at their creamy flesh topped with beautiful breasts and toned asses…that was until I was rudely jerked out of the fantasy."Sir!"I cursed under my breath and grabbed my robe from where I flung it last night on the chair and tied it around my waist.Normally an interruption like this would have me crushing this man's head between my palms but since they already were under the strict rules not to interrupt my rest time unless it was something of importance, I knew it wasn't for nothing.I jerked the door open and looked at the man holding a thick file in his hands. "I'll be down in twenty," I growled and shut the door
Katherine’s POVThe sound of water dripping from a tap or faucet burrowed deep into my subconscious until I couldn't get it out. It was always constant and that was what woke me up.Drip. Drip. Drip.I rocked back and forth as I tried to get my bearings. It was dark and smelled musty like an old foam, and even with my advanced vision I wasn't able to see farther than a couple of feet in front of me.It slowly started coming back to me…how I made myself sleep off to ward off the exhaustion.I made to move but my chains jangled, jolting me back to the sad reality that I was still chained up.I didn't know how many days, or weeks had passed since I was brutally taken away from Caleb. I hadn't seen anyone else since then, not the dark mysterious man who came in and butchered half of the pack in less than an hour.I was afraid of him but right now, I would rather have him speak than this unending that was all around me.I bent my back a bit to stretch a little and I groaned as the muscles
Caleb’s POVThe beeping sound woke me up.The constant machine beeping. Daniel's face was the first thing I saw when I came to, and the concerned look on his face made me worried.Instantly, I tried to sit up, but he forced me back down. "Calm the fuck down, man."I relaxed simply because it was way too hard to even fight against him. I relaxed back on the bed, turning my head to the side, I noted that it was late afternoon.I tried to speak but my throat was so dry. I turned back to face Daniel intent on asking for water but a plastic cup with ice chips in them appeared in front of me before I even uttered a word.I shot him a grateful look and with shaky hands, I struggled to get the cup to my lips.I crunched them between my teeth, and they immediately melted in between my lips. I drank the water, grateful for the coolness as it washed down my throat.I tried not to move too much as everything hurt even before I lifted it. Most especially my knee which throbbed like crazy."What h
Caleb’s POV"Fuck…what happened?" I breathed out, my gaze coasting over every inch that I could see. Each destroyed building, each dead body inside felt like a spike through my heart as it was a certain reminder that I had failed my people.Once again…"After you uh…" he looked away, attempting to find the words. "After what happened to you, they raided the place before they left and there wasn't much, we could do. They outpowered us, two to one." He explains quietly and I see his shoulders droop, knowing he was taking the full blame for everything."Did they take anyone?" I waited with bated breath for the answer, already having an idea what it would be.Nevertheless, that didn't make it any less painful. "Yeah. Some women and children."I couldn't breathe. "Holy…" The crushing weight of responsibilities was on my shoulders, and it felt as if they were weighing me down, not letting me up for air. Then I remembered the wise words of my father and what he advised me to do in situations
Katherine’s POV My jaw dropped at his declaration, and I wondered whether he had a few screws loose in his head, after all this wasn't the first time, I'd met a devastatingly handsome man who turned out to be a basket case...if it seemed to be a running thing around me. "Tell me you're joking." I scoffed, even though the pit of my stomach felt uneasy. He crossed his feet in a dainty manner and addressed me coolly. "I never joke." "Must be such a bore, then," I muttered under my breath. Out loud I said. "You captured me to take my blood? What am I, a lab rat?" "It's quite sad to see that even you don't know the potential that you carry in your body." He took his gaze over my body, and I felt violated. If not because he said he was my brother- which I didn't fully believe- I would have thought he desired me but all I saw in his eyes was cold detachment, the type you had when you were assessing furniture to see if it would fit in with the aesthetics of the home. "Since I don't know,
Caleb’s POV "Harder! Push harder!!" I shout but Daniel just hits me. "Oomphf! What was that for?" I groused. "You're making a whole lot of noise! If they don't catch us, then surely your noisemaking will let them know that we're here." He grumbles, raising a valid point so I wisely shut up. He grunts and gives me the extra boost I needed to get over the ledge. I groaned and slapped my hands on the concrete, holding on firmly so I didn't lose my grasp on the wall. I have puff and grunt until I can swing one leg over and I flop to the ground. I take a second breather and then I lean over the ledge, looking for Daniel but I don't see him. "Daniel!" I hissed sharply, frantically searching around with my eyes but he was nowhere to be seen. That was until he popped his head out from the corner. "What is it?" "Geez, do you want to scare me to death?" I whisper yell. "I was looking for you." "I thought I saw something." He shook his head to remain focused. He prepared to stand on the led
Shadow’s POV The whole ground shook underneath my feet and men and women started to scream aloud in fright. I hung on to the nearest table to steady me. Once I gained my balance, I powered through and tried walking to the other side of the room despite the turbulence but suddenly the window exploded into a million bits halfway there. The screaming intensified and I crashed to the floor, something heavy slamming into the sides of my head. The pain was disorienting, and I lost my balance for several seconds, but I quickly got back up. I felt a thick liquid slide down my face, and I distractedly touched it, bringing my fingers down so I saw that it was blood despite being unable to take my eyes off the sight before me. A line of people was trying to sneak out on the ground and there was a helicopter waiting to take off a couple of feet away. I recognized the wild brown hair of the woman and I realized that it was Katherine! She was escaping before my very eyes!! I growled and sto
