Chapter forty-five

Katherine’s POV

My jaw dropped at his declaration, and I wondered whether he had a few screws loose in his head, after all this wasn't the first time, I'd met a devastatingly handsome man who turned out to be a basket case...if it seemed to be a running thing around me.

"Tell me you're joking." I scoffed, even though the pit of my stomach felt uneasy.

He crossed his feet in a dainty manner and addressed me coolly. "I never joke."

"Must be such a bore, then," I muttered under my breath. Out loud I said. "You captured me to take my blood? What am I, a lab rat?"

"It's quite sad to see that even you don't know the potential that you carry in your body." He took his gaze over my body, and I felt violated. If not because he said he was my brother- which I didn't fully believe- I would have thought he desired me but all I saw in his eyes was cold detachment, the type you had when you were assessing furniture to see if it would fit in with the aesthetics of the home.
