Chapter eighteen

Katherine’s POV

My vigil gave way to an exhausted slumber, and I was jolted awake by the slamming of a door from downstairs.

Ethan was home!

I jerked up on the bed and wiped the drool that had stuck to my cheeks.

I dashed into the bathroom, sprinkling water on my face to wake up, and righted my clothes properly before I headed downstairs.

My eyes caught on the digital clock and I winced inwardly when I saw the time.

It read 1:45 a.m.

Why the hell was he home this late?

I heard shouting, glass breaking, and then some loud cursing.

I hurried downstairs, wondering what was going on.

Rounding the staircase, I caught sight of blood and broken bottles on the floor.

My eyes widened, and I gingerly stepped around them, conscious of the fact that I was barefoot.

"Ethan?" I called out shakily, not liking what was going on in the house anymore.

The uncertainty was starting to wear on my nerves, which I didn't find funny anymore.

The response I got to my call was a loud grunt, then more cursing.
